He started his slide a bit late but it did look like he was trying to do that until he realized where the catcher was.

It's really a bad call and I would like to think there may be a process for another appeal. That wouldn't change the outcome of the game, but at least let's give that kid a chance to play again.

Just saw that posted on the rant.  What an absolute joke of a call.  The NCAA should have to issue a statement of justification in every review they make.

one thing i keep seeing/reading about that play is dead wrong.

the catcher, per the rules, was not illegally blocking the plate because he was in the act of fielding the ball. per the rules:
"...it shall not be considered a violation if the catcher blocks the pathway in a legitimate attempt to field the throw..." he didn't have to have possession to be in the position he was.

malicious intent is a judgement call and while it may or may not have been be the case there, the uvsu coach made the right move to challenge.

finally fuck oregon.

But the catcher had been sitting there in front of the plate a long time before the ball ever got there. He was parked. To me, that's obstruction and not an attempt to field the ball.

look at the play, the throw was there well before the collision, he missed it.

how stupid would it be that the catcher would have to have the ball in his mitt before ever getting into position?

Seems a little ridiculous that he was ejected, much much less suspended. I don't agree with that call. Catcher was fully blocking the plate and and a bit down the line in runners slide zone. Was he supposed to stop and tip toe around the catcher? Maybe I don't fully under the rule, but seems like wrong call and probably changed the outcome of the game.
