This is Houston Nutt getting on a plane or not getting on a plane all over again. Only I think there were plenty of morons out there trying to keep him from getting on the plane to Nebraska. And before anyone says it...Nutt's record up to that point wasn't entirely terrible at least by Arkansas standards. Not getting on the plane led to a two year pass and then a couple more years where he pissed away the greatest football talent this state has seen in 40 years if not 50.

I have little doubt that Muss can come back and still be successful here for the same reason you can go from good to bad is the same reason you can go from bad to really good. NIL/portal. We see where programs like Nova and Virginia came up for a while. Then they've faded away. Nova because Jay Wright got out at the right time. In truth there around probably 15 to 20 programs that you could count on to be in the conversation year in and year out. I think our fans including me had got used to to the idea that we had made it back onto that list. We know better now. That's recruiting, coaching, preparation, and development. Perhaps from the head coaches point of view  to he's seeing a lack of commitment from the athletic dept, fan base, etc. I think if/when this economic downturn and inflation subside then NIL may be more of a thing regular people are more willing to give to. Not right now. People may be burning their money in other states but I don't think that shit is happening in Arkansas.

It's been a long time since we've had a coach leave us for another gig, the last coach we hired in that scenario, turned out pretty well.

USC is not a better gig, but maybe it fits him better or gets him a fresh start, closer to his mom, whatever.

He put us where we need to be, in a good position to succeed him and have continued success. Won't hate on the guy for leaving or drawing some bad luck drama divas in the portal, even though he does deserve some criticism of how he handled the in season drama.
