I appreciate everything Muss did here. That said, the way he handled last year and bolting the way he did says a lot about his character.

Cal is gonna bring in top talent and I think he has a chip on his shoulder from how things unfolded in KY. I'm ready for the season to get here.

We might be once we get into post season play. In fairness to Muss I also think maybe he was being treated by the money people like he had hit his ceiling and I think there was good reason to feel that way based on his repeatedly getting out coached over the last several months of play. 

Whatever philosophy Muss was bringing to the table (such as game prep NBA style) had been rendered largely obsolete by other teams in the SEC adopting similar concepts with better athletes. It always comes down to who has the better athletes/players. Muss had some really good teams that outplayed other team's really good players but eventually that was not able to be overcome. It appeared to be consistently less and less effective.

And to paraphrase Muss they couldn't find him the money to build a roster but they found it for the next guy. I think that spoke volumes to what actually happened. That money wouldn't be here without the kind of clout that Cal brings to the table and will likely remain while he's coaching at the UA. I don't see Tyson pulling out his support so quickly if Cal turns in a turd of a season. The two are somewhat tied to the hip now. 

Our AD is largely ineffective at hiring coaches and/or raising money on his own which is a bit concerning but if we're being honest most ADs are not rock stars that make panties drop and money flow from the heavens at least not so out in the open. HY had about as much hand in the hiring of Cal as Long did Petrino.

Muss got us right but he is good for 3 years before he wears EVERYONE down - staff, admins, boosters, players, etc. He has no on/off switch thus the short shelf life. That's who is his and the cycle will continue at USC and beyond.

his best staff was his first staff and when they left it began to sink. Last year was a disaster and it was like Pittman was doing the player evals - big swing and misses.

Cal needed a change of scenery, a reset, and this was the perfect landing spot. However it wouldn't have been possible if Muss hadn't had that run of Elite Eights.

Muss is good at building a roster. That's it.

Chemistry sucked. Offensive philosophy was mediocre, defense was mediocre.

He underachieved in the regular season with the talent he had.

Before we go sucking him off for 3 sweet sixteens, winning two games in a row isn't rocket science. Yeah, we hadn't done that since '96, but sucking in the past is not justification for praise when you finally don't suck.

The 3 year shelf life turned out to be pretty true, fans of his precious stops were voicing the same things.

That said, there's no Cal without Muss. He put us back on the map and he has my gratitude.

This.  We were an afterthought.  And then we made the Elite 8.  And then we did it again and followed the second up with another Sweet 16.

He certainly tried to coach a pro-style game.  And his offense depended on getting lots of foul shots, while his defense gave up plenty of fouls.  I hopefully will be able to see a game with 2 or 4 possessions in a row without fouls under Cal.

I certainly appreciate Lurks viewpoint.  Muss did put teams on the floor that won a lot of games.  

Maybe "terrible" is too strong of a word to use.  I definitely don't like his approach to the college game though and am excited to see what Cal can do.
