We can never do it easy. Drama is a way of life for us.

BleedinRed

Good to see guys hitting.  Glad Diggs got a few.

For someone who's supposedly all world, we sure do own Petry's ass.

He was 0-12 with 6 K's and stranded 6 runners by himself.

And that's after going 1-11 with 7 K's against us last year.

Oh man. Just when we thought we had our wives put away for the evening.

Really good series win!

Two tough road series left, but as long as we take care of business at home, then I feel good about a Top 8 seed.

I'll feel better about Omaha if our bats will stop disappearing for 18 innings at a time.

The only optimistic thing about the bats is that they vanished early enough that there IS time for them to come back, vs them vanishing at the end of the year when it is too late.

If you'd have told me we'd go 4-1 against Tech and SC, I'd have taken that in a heartbeat.

We may not have looked pretty doing it, but those are two good teams, one of them on the road which has been our Achilles heel somewhat this year.

Exactly. A series win on the road against a good team is always a good thing.

I still don't think we know how good our team really is.  Which is crazy considering we are sitting at 34-6, 14-4 in conference.

We always seem to get timely hits, except when we don't. Which sounds incredibly obvious and stupid, except what I mean is, there's a third category, overwhelming people with offense and hits and runs, that does not describe our offense at all.

We're either just enough, or nothing. But obviously at 34-6 we are "just enough" wayyyyyy more than not.

HOGSRUNWILD

That is what gives me the most hope.  Baseball is, more often than not, a game of 'getting hot' and it is contagious.  We haven't really been 'hot' at the plate all year where we just pile up hits and beat the shit out of teams in more than one game.  If recent history is any indicator, that is exactly what it takes to win the CWS.  Even more than great pitching, getting hot seems to be it.  That is how Mississippi state and Ole Miss won it all, they got hot.  They weren't the best team, but sure the fuck were the hottest at the end.

I can dream that something like that happens to us.  We struggle some and then a few players snap out of it and get hot and that carries us through the whole thing.  We certainly have the pitching and just need the hitting to get it.

Also, maybe it is time to look for a new hitting coach...

Seeing guys like Condon, Montgomery, and Caglione tear it up doesn't help either. Seeing HRs be way up and our power being down makes it feel worse than it probably is.

If the worst thing we've got going for us is only winning 60+% of our games on the road, we're in pretty good shape.

I've been listening to the podcast Highway To Hoover lately. Highly recommend it for any SEC baseball junkies out there.

Anyway, they had an episode fairly recently where they talked about the oddity of some stats. Specifically, they talked about how Vanderbilt actually commits a very low number of errors, but that they disproportionately lead to runs. Similarly, they talked about an insane number of homers Cags hits are solo (and thus mitigating the damage to opponents).

Baseball's weird like that. You boot a grounder with runners at the corners and 1 scores. You drop a pop fly with a runner at 1st and still have a chance for the force at 2nd. Conversely, a veritable Golden Spikes shoe-in like Cags blasts a solo homer 450 feet and it's worth the same number of runs as a sub-Mendoza Line guy like Rowland hitting an oppo RBI single with a runner on 2nd.
