If anyone other than LSU gives a shit.

Georgia eliminated 9-1 by LSU.

S. Cackalacky leads Bama 6-3 in the top of the fourth.

The lack of a double base may have cost us a chance to go to Omaha in 2021.  Slavens fucked up his ankle on a play that the double bag would have prevented.  He was on a roll going into Hoover, and was pretty much an automatic out in regionals and supers that year.

Ah, it is part of the game. Like being able to hit the QB in football used to be.

Seems like an easy change to make for player safety to me.  It doesn't change fair/foul decisions...if a ball hits the colored bag bag of color, it's foul.  If it hits the normal base, it's fair, same as before.

I just can't see any negative to it.

There will come a time when the runner will step directly where the two bags meet going to first and no one will know what to do. LOL.

Looks like we will be getting South Carolina. 10-5, 1 out, bottom of the ninth.

Youth softball is the only place I see it, NFHS doesn't require it nationally but some states do. The NCAA is looking at it for softball but....
I see the safety side and have often wondered why it isn't adopted and was told studies show it would minimal impact at best.
When you think about, collisions at first are rare and when it does happen it is because of a bad throw to first.

The fact that on this day of all about player safety and it has yet to be adopted or mandated does speak volumes.

As noted, the tournament format is beyond stupid forcing teams to burn pitchers for a meaningless tournament the week before the real tournament.

So when do they put another base at second, where it seems more collisions occur, or home for that matter? (Don't mind me, I am just stirring the pot).

You aren't wrong. 2nd base has far more collisions than any base but I would say steals are first by a 3 or 4 to 1 margin vs. force outs

They had the safety based at Interstate Park when the legendary Woopig softball team played there.

Because a double base means more........

https://www.secsports.com/news/2024/05/double-first-base-to-be-utilized-for-2024-sec-baseball-tournament

"The purpose of the double first base is to reduce collisions between the defense and the batter-runner at first base. It has been utilized in a number of SEC non-conference contests this season."

Are there that many collisions at first that we need to find a solution?

How so?

Would the first baseman have played off the green bag?  Would Slaven have tried to bypass the white bag for the green and risk being thrown out?

im an idiot.  Pay no attention to what I wrote.  I don't know why I thought the green bag was down the line, behind the white bag.  Not to the side.

Is there anything riding on us winning any games in this deal or are we better off saving the good arms and using this stuff as batting practice?
