If Bobby is still here next year I suspect Green would be a lot better.  This offense isn't easy for even a reasonably intelligent QB to pick up quickly.
The audible was always sent in from the sideline when Wilson was QB. He could make his progressions though and I haven't seen that from Green.

Wasn't there an interview posted somewhere on here with Green and it was horrible? Like he sounded really dumb? Or, I may be misremembering.
Well, shit...

Show me one quarterback that calls his own audibles at the college level. That hasn't been a thing for years.

No amount of time is going to fix Green. Noodle arm and no brains.

I won't comment on the brains, but his arm strength is not the problem.   When you can throw 60 yards going to the off hand side and falling backwards your arm is plenty strong enough.

Accuracy on the other hand...

Quote from: bogeyfree on Sep 30, 2024, 11:22 AMEvery one of these by DJ has been awesome.  Petrino is getting people open but we don't have a QB that can make it happen.  And our OL is better than last year but mostly trash again.
It was either Teslaa or Hasz that was open quite a few times, he just didn't get the ball to them. We left a shit ton of yards on the field yesterday. The one where he had the guy wide open on a post route was a TD if he didn't throw it behind him. It makes me feel a little better about Petrino's play calling, but what is he seeing in Green? My wife's grandpa lives around Boise and is a huge Boise State fan. I saw him a few months ago and he was talking about Green and pretty much said exactly what we're all sitting here complaining about. He wasn't necessarily sad to see him transfer out.

Quote from: HOGSRUNWILD on Sep 30, 2024, 03:41 PMGreen is maybe just really, really dumb or at least slow thinking.  Dudes were open and he is just very very slow to see them and react, let along anticipate them being open.  Petrino, unless he somehow modifies the playbook to account for this, missed on Green.

I did get the feeling that Tyler Wilson might have also not have been the sharpest tool in the shed and some things were done to account for that  I wonder if similar things can be done for Green.

I hate to say it... but we ARE seeing the dumbed down version.  If you replay and watch, Green should never go beyond the second read, which is open.  The scheme is actually pretty simple (has to be if even I get it).  Green looks for Armstrong and then scrambles.  Hell, lots of times Armstrong isn't even the primary.  Green is just too slow, he has to wait to see the play develop before throwing the ball.  Sure, sometimes the OL let everyone but grandma get in his face so he can't see a damned thing, but other times (easier to see on replay) he just doesn't even see the route and throw to where the receiver WILL be.  He just scrambles.

Go back and watch some of the Mallet years... Then watch some of the Wilson stuff... and watch today.  This IS the really dumb version.  Bobby has to be beyond flabbergasted.  Of course, at some point Bobby needs to say fuck it and try Singleton (unless he's seeing shit in practice that is preventing it).

Our Right Tackle and his olé blocks will make that decision for Petrino soon enough.

I don't know who Caleb Williams is and neither did you until you googled.

Yeah, only the number one pick in the draft  ::)

This place should have been left to die. There's only a few of us left who know sports.

He started down low as a ball washer at a country club and that's where he later made his tens of dollars off hot stock tips.

He's seen more balls than Kamala Harris.

I can't watch a sport any more with my insecurities of knowing I don't know balls like HTL.

I wasn't making it up when I said he went off to the big city, NY, to strike it rich and just ended up being passed around Greenwich Village like a hand towel.  Then he slinked back home with his tail and prolapsed asshole between his legs.

All this bravado he tries to show now is simply shame and trying to cover how much he failed and had to slink home to mommy and daddy.  That is it.

Don't tell HTL that, because according to him Petrino is the reason we lost.

A lot of pro QBs can't truly audible anymore either. They might can check from a run to a pass but some have to run the play called even if running into a 9 man front.

All college offenses are less complex than many high schools these days because they don't have consistency across seasons with players.  Its why most teams have shit levels of execution.
