Seriously, does Dave need to rethink his recruiting of pitchers strategy?  Every year there is a guy who has this issue.

DrMongoose

This is a trend, shouldn't the pitching performance center be preventing this instead of seemingly causing this?
Check your damn blood pressure!

these kids are being taught velocity is how they get to the next level. overstressed arms that aren't even fully developed plus playing year round gets you an increase in surgeries.

it's not something that training alone can cure.

It isn't just Arkansas and it isn't just college. This is happening at ALL levels. Don't know what the solution is.

This. I really think it's the year round aspect of it. Last year one of our HS sophomores had TJ. My son took the fall off as far as playing. He did pitching lessons and is focusing more on strength and conditioning.

Thankfully we have a former MLB pitcher locally that offers pitching lessons. He's one of the best locally. His son signed with Ark State and was the Memphis metro player of the year.

I think I would rather have a kid that throws mid to high 80s on his fastball but has 3 or 4 pitches in his holster vs a kid that can throw mid to upper 90s and has 2 pitches and a high likelihood of injury.  But, maybe it doesn't work that way either.

I've thought that as well, mainly because the teams I follow (Hogs, Braves) always get shut down by lefties whose fastball can barely break glass but have an array of junk pitches.  Then again it's probably just my teams because those guys usually have ERAs of 4.5 or higher when they make the Hogs or Braves' bats go silent.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

My oldest is 6'3 as a sophomore. Touches 77 on a good day. His best pitch is a circle change. He gets some good roll on it. He gets little or light contact. He's had many 7 pitch innings. You don't have to throw 92-99 to get folks out

Helfrick 0-3. And we have 2 errors in 5 innings, but lead 6-1. They only have 1 hit.
Well, shit...
