Quote from: Italian Porn on May 14, 2026, 07:32 PMInsurance costs here are insane.  After Hurricane Rita in 2005, State Farm and most other large carriers stopped writing policies south of I-10.  My State Farm agent moved and couldn't get a State Farm policy on his own house.  Premiums have steadily climbed, to the point that realtors have told me the most common reason buyers walked away from closing on a house was the insurance quote. A lot of folks have gone with smaller companies, but I know several that got screwed after Hurricane Laura when their carrier just declared bankruptcy.  I know a couple who were insured by some company out of Florida.  House was basically destroyed, went back and forth with the insurer, hired private adjusters, and eventually had to sue the insurance company.  Took several years, ended up with a settlement that covered rebuilding their home, their costs to live in an apartment for 4 years, attorneys fees, as well as some punitive damages.  The insurance company had 30 days to cut them a check, but a day or two before the deadline, it became clear Hurricane Milton was going to hit Florida, so the company declared bankruptcy.  One of the local attorneys who's spent most of his career representing State Farm here had his home insured by them, and he had to sue them.

Actually started a month prior with Katrina.

Farm Bureau was stand up about it. Had a adjuster our quickly and checks in the mail within a week. Deductible on my house ended up being $11K and after working with my contractor, I'll be out less than $10K on two houses with roof, siding, and gutter damage. I really thought it be $20K on my house alone, so I'm pleased.

You ain't kidding. I got my grandpa's old brush ax sharpened up and was working on some brush on the creek bank behind the house. Took me about 30 minutes to give that up. Ticks, snakes, and humidity is not conducive to getting much done.

We had big hail storm in April and I forgot to bring in my car as the storm blew up quick.  Baseballs a mile from me I got peas but some quarters and golf balls.  99 4runner zero damage.  I thought my car was ok but my DiL saw a dent.  And another. And another.  I could see until then.  Since my cataract surgery I have contrast issues.

Anyway $6600 bucks for repairs .  Under the light it looks like cottage cheese.  58 dents.  Allstate paid it no issues.

I saw a couple of places where they called it a land spout. Is that some new pc thing to not hurt the tornado's feelings?

It's basically like a pussy tornado....which would be a great name for a metal band.

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.
