Who has ever said that?  I think teams get excited to be able to play one extra game but I don't think those 6-6 teams are trying to convince the world that they are going to the Ship and Disney world.

I'd watch a bowl game of two 0-12 teams.   It would be a match up between to comparable teams resulting in a good game most likely.

Again, you don't have to convince me that more football is better. But this clown shoes program ran by our clownshoes coach considers just going to a bowl game a success when it came as a result of a non-winning season.

This is an extra spring game and if some of these guys "show out" in this game they'll too be able to get up out of here.

I'd argue that Sam was most likely happy that after 5 losses the team still fought and scrapped and earned that final win that was enabled them to get one extra game.

I really doubt he is overjoyed to be bowl eligible just for the sake of being bowl eligible.

I bet he would much rather be in a New Year's Day or better bowl with only a loss or two on the resume.

I'm very confident he isn't happy with what the team accomplished this year but what is he supposed to say now?   We sucked and these guys don't deserve that extra game so we ain't going?  Or, this bowl is shit but we are going to g to play the game despite that fact?

That's where I'm at. He's gotta put a positive spin on the bowl. Just like he's gotta attempt to make it sound like losing 25 guys is just a super cool challenge and an opportunity for the keeds. Also pay no attention to our backups getting offered 5 times more than we thought they were worth...we're gonna go out and buy better players (somehow).

Sam is not a wordsmith...he's not going to say the most apropos thing in the moment. So blunders like "We wanted the Liberty Bowl" gets conflated to this was our goal the entire season which clearly it isn't.

They don't lose money, because ESPN owns most of them.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

lol at thinking a bowl game loses money.

I'm sure he'd absolutely love to be playing a Jan 1 bowl, but that's not the point. The point is he's established a culture that's lazy and lacks the discipline and vision to get there. Its not that he doesnt want to, its that he doesnt know how.
So of course he puts a positive spin on a 6 win season because that's what losers do, instead of owning that a Liberty Bowl invite is NOT acceptable in year 5 of his tenure.

BleedinRed

Again, I'm pretty sure he knows that a Liberty Bowl invite is NOT acceptable in year 5 of his tenure.

With that written, No coach is going to quit and admit defeat, regardless of what the fans think they should do.  No fan, if awarded a head coaching gig, would do that either by the way.   And I know he said he wouldn't have to be asked to leave if he wasn't getting the job done.  It's clear to me he still believes he can put a winning team on the field.

We are all upset at the situation and the vast majority of us agree that it's time to give someone else a shot.

That's pretty funny considering he himself said we won't have to fire him if he's not successful...

Yet here we are with another non-winning record and going to a joke of a bowl that he's trying to spin as a positive, and instead of falling on his sword as he should (like he said he would), he's going to take the program down with him.

But hey! I bet the keeds are gonna love a trip to Bass Pro and a swag bag full of spinner baits!

He has been talking all year since before the season about going to "a bowl" and they had "bowl bound" tee shirts made for the team after they got eligible. He made his goal.  In his mind this year was a success.

And why was he so comfortable doing that? Because his bosses were ok with that goal too.
"That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar the first time his parents asked him to babysit."

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Once authored a post that critics claimed, "Was notaslibro level."

I'm pretty sure he was told he had to make a bowl to keep his job.

Miami.

Well, Miami Gardens now.

Which is really closer to Fort Lauderdale.

With the playoffs, bowl games should go the way of the dodo bird.  Or expand the number of playoff teams and use some of the existing bowl game sites for the games. If a now-existing bowl doesn't want to participate in the expanded playoffs or are not up to par (looking at you Liberty, Independence, and Birmingham Bowls), find new sites that will.

It's playoffs or nothing now.

BleedinRed

Why do away with the bowls?  I simply don't understand why anyone would be against playing more games.

Bowl games are a television show. They fill programming hours for ESPN. They ain't going nowhere.

tech's starting qb had surgery today, will miss the bowl game. they'll start a freshman who has 23 attempts this season.
