Is he going to decline like he is declining the Liberty Bowl?

I know the Liberty Bowl ain't all that but I hate quitting on your team.  Some black coach of a mid-level program had a good rant the other day about how no one on his team is going to "opt out."  He said if there's a game to play, we're here to play, we're all going to play, that's why you play college football and there are only a limited amount of games for the rest of your life.

I forget who it was but one of y'all probably saw it and know.

Quote from: animal on Dec 11, 2024, 06:58 PMJuJu Pope is now listed as a RB...this roster has all the portal guys completely off. I hate when they do that because nerds like me will go back 15 years to go "who was that guy that played on the 2004 team. Fuck this staff.

RBs (as of now but will likely change)

1. Dubinion (holy shit how bad do you have to be that nobody wants you)
2. Russell
3. Hill
4. Reed Jr (little bowling ball had a few good runs in spring) scored in the UAPB gam
5. Pope?

Tight Ends

1. Andreas Paaske
2. Probably an offensive lineman
3. Maddox Lassiter (great porn stache)
4. Shemar Easter (probably still won't see the field)

Wide Outs

1. Broden (can't catch but is tall)
2. TeSlaa (he can catch, gets open but is white and the QB doesn't get him the rock)
3. Jordan Anthony (little guy)
4. CJ Brown (can't catch)
5. Monte Harrison (30 something)
6. Krosse Johnson (has participated in a couple games this season)
7. Khafre Brown transfer from USF, 2 catches on the season
8. Dazmin James *** freshman has participated in some games

Fuck pay boards.

This is some high quality sports reporting right here.

it's east-west shrine game. you get paid so he's going pro. armstrong did the same thing. hardly unusual.

There are a whole lot of things nowadays that are hardly unusual but entirely shitty.

In 1970, I watched Arkansas win 62-0 over a Wichita State team that had just lost 14 of their starters in a  plane crash three weeks earlier.

This game might be that bad.

Wait, didn't both those guys get paid NIL to play in all the Razorback games.

I guess they already got all the NIL and now they get the E/W Shrine game money way too all while fucking the Hogs and former team mates over?

Quote from: RPL on Dec 10, 2024, 08:57 PMI was at that game, too. Absolutely expected to win that one. I guess I was naive back then. Players didn't give a shit then, either.

Can you blame them?  Minor bowls are stupid.  I remember when players voted and sometimes, like after the horrendous 1970 rematch with Texas they voted to not go to a bowl.  These shit bowls are just losers against losers.  Teams now like them as they get extra practice time, that is if you actually have players.

Except for, you know, the 6 mil you get paid for even the shitty liberty bowl. I know HTL isn't impressed with that but it's beneficial to the poors at UA.

The bowl berth is worth $100,000 to Pittman and I would bet the staff gets bowl bonuses too

Quote from: FNG on Dec 11, 2024, 09:31 AMI don't think J Geils was on the bill for that particular concert but Live La Grange, Free Bird, Don't Fear the Reaper and Green Grass and High Tides in one sitting had to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Side note: July 4, 1976 was also America's Bicentennial and (I looked it up) the high temp in Memphis that day was 79 degrees!

I could swear I remember Magic Dick doing Whammer Jammer but you know... drugs.  Was that the year before at the Stones concert.  That was the worst fucking experience ever.  No concessions. No water.  163 degrees.

Blue oyster cult player Reaper for about a half hour, since no one knew any of their other shit.  Outlaws opened, played green grass to close the set, then Vic, then Skynyrd who played a headline length set and might have been the best I ever saw them.  In 74 they had opened for Three Dog Night and folks booed TDn and threw shit at them so they cut it short and Skynyrd came out and played another hour. ZZTop was smokin hot and played a fucking longass crazy version of mellow down easy with a bunch of dirty added lyrics.  BFG just ripped all night.  They played like three hours and a bunch of stuff no one had heard yet.  My first concert was Overton park shell with zztop opening for the Allman brothers.  I've seen zztop at least 20 times

It's a business. You expect him to play behind the shit line Sam will have for the bowl since all the starters left? Risk injury for a big nothing burger in a bowl? Every year there's at least one player with nfl aspirations that gets a bad injury the fucks up their draft position. Why do they owe their teammates anything to play in an exhibition game to fill espn's coffers when your coach sets the example of making business decisions in life?

Bowl games as an end goal is stupid.  Always been stupid.  Even more stupid in today's game. And no nfl team will say we'd draft this kid but he walked on the fucking Liberty bowl and doofus Sam Pittman. All they care about is his tape and his combine, which should be their sole focus.

animal

What made the bowl games "shitty" is the pussification of sports. Back when I was a kid dudes didn't "risk" injury...they just showed up and played. Yeah maybe a few guys ripped up a knee and ended up losing out on millions in potential earnings but by god they played for the love of the game and the name on their chest (making millions)

Why did he risk injury against Mizzou?

The Whyte Boar

Having a goal of making a bowl is so stupid.  The goal is to win every single game you have on you schedule or have left on you schedule.  At the end of the year, you add them up and maybe you won enough to go to a bowl.  But saying from the start, "we're gonna make a bowl" is just stupid.

Son of Spam

I remember when there were only the Cotton, Orange, Sugar, and Rose bowls. Then they added a few more. Now, there ware way too many. It is like everyone gets a trophy.
Well, shit...
