The only other explanation is the weakening of the magnetic shield is having a dramatic worsening effect on weather. It's kind of late to have a hurricane period, much less a Cat "6".

That is what it left of hurricane Kirk, it is considered post tropical now.

This is not uncommon at all. Most weaken to just a storm system by the time they make it to Europe.

Cat 6 is still hypothetical but this storm miiight push the limits of what they thought a Cat 5 was capable of.

Nah. Camille wasn't the biggest but still holds the record for strongest recorded wind speed at nearly 200 mph. That was 55 years ago.

Not sure we could measure hurricane winds like that too much before.
