Was fishing on the Arkansas River outside of Salida, Colorado back in August and had this young male moose sneak up on me at about 30 yards.  Scared me shitless for a second, but was a great punctuation mark on a good fishing trip.You cannot view this attachment.

that's interesting...usually the moose tend to stay further north up near Walden on the west side of Estes and trickle down to just north of say Idaho springs...you don't hear as much about them being that far south. I was shocked I saw one in st Mary's glacier area

I texted that pic and a short video to the guide I'd fished with the day before. He said the same thing, moose don't get down in the Arkansas River Valley that often.   However, the numbers of HUGE mule deer I saw in the city limits of Salida and Buena Vista was crazy!

I was driving that highway along that river 15 years ago (at least) when we came around a curve and found a mini-van which had hit a big mule deer about 5 minutes earlier. It apparently jumped into the road from a ledge about 10 feet up.  The deer was dead, and the minivan was totaled.  Some poor guy was laying in the road and he looked bad.  Help had already stopped, so I didn't.  But it was a damn mess.

yep super rare...I was even told it's rare that they get down south if winter park area along 70 which is where I saw. There's about 3k of them and most often you find them up around Walden so that's awesome you saw one down there. Salida is so flat in that valley I wouldn't expect them to be so out in the open and more in dense woods but he'll occasionally you have crazy moose chasing skiers during ski season on a mountain

I know they get pretty far south, but they like the elevation....the first one I ever saw was just outside lake city, and that was 17 years ago.

we got Wednesday into Thursday several inches. Took an hour yesterday to get into work which is only 10 miles away. Today I'm tempting in. Just started...they are predicting 7-14" here in Denver but I don't think they know. So far roads are clear in town but it's supposed to get worse as the day goes on and snow through tomorrow morn. I am over fucking snow
