Quote from: The Reverend SnoopHogg on Jan 27, 2026, 07:23 PMWent into town today.  Stewart was a complete shit show.  Kanjis is a sheet of ice.  Rahling is ice up to Chenal.  Chenal is one lane both directions but drivable.

I had a mostly private shopping experience at Costco.  Super nice without all the streets hitters and durkas.

I bet Stewart was nasty.

One of the fishing guides at Ozark Angler used to pilot the helicopters for those powerline runners.  Nerves of steel.
Oak Grove in the house.

Seems like they've given up on anything that's not a main road. Schools will be out through next Monday.

If it were me doing the wiring I think I might prefer a harness on a cable to sitting on the landing gear.  At least it gives the pilot a little leeway. Probably not as stable though.

I suspect they're finding out that the snow plowing isn't going too good with that solid sheet of ice that's under two inches of sleet. You'd have to dig up half the road to scrape that off.

CJ's Billiards in Benton collapsed due to snow weight. I think that place was there back when Burt Reynolds was filming Gator and White Lightning. Or at least it was a Billiard hall back then too. It damn sure was when I was a kid.

Roads in Jonesboro are already dry thanks to the work before the storm and then the constant work they've been doing since the first night.

How much worse was the ice really down there in LR?

I think the snow load (weight of sleet) from this storm was a lot more than we've seen in the past judging by the building collapses but in terms of danger on the roads we've seen far worse even in recent years. There is a house down the road from my shop that has the roof caved in...the house was unoccupied for many years and needed to be torn down but it was otherwise in tact until the other day. This shit has put a load on some of these iffy as fuck buildings.

I needed four wheel drive to get into and out of customers drive way once this week. The rest of the time I think I could have easily made it with two wheel drive. There may be more increased dangers as this shit refreezes into a slick sheet of ice and more people venture out and get a bit too bold. Generally if you can make it to the freeway or major roads you are going to be good to go.

How's central arkansas now? Just spoke to my parents who live in memphis and they said it's fucking insane the lack of anything being done. They said the freeway is clear but they haven't seen a truck treating any streets at all. Said FedEx, usps and ups all weren't even running until yesterday
Yep. I'm not trying to be a dick about it. It could have lived. It didn't. Not by my choice. -Elvis

Went to visit Mom last night at a rehab place off Rahling.  There was a bit of a patch on Chenal in one lane, and past Bowman it was mostly only one full lane clear.  Shitshow once I got off that road though.  Still better than I expected.

Main roads are good. But you better have 4WD or AWD on any side streets.

The new places up on the hill off Rahling?
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

Some of our side roads have a foot of ice still on them. This crap won't melt for two months.
Well, shit...

Main roads are passable in LR area.  Interstates are clear.

Some of the side streets are a shitshow.

Yep, with them plowing the main roads the entrances to neighborhoods have a foot or more of a shitpile at the entrance.  In addition to 4WD you better have some good clearance to get thru it.  My Z71 handles it fine but I've seen and helped several that were stuck in it.

Drove by the hood folk on Green Mountain yesterday. They just parked their cars in the middle of the road lol

No trash pick up until next week at least, glad it's cold or would be stank. Probably going to have to fill some other cans. Hope they pick them up.

Same here. Our trash day is Friday and it's been 2 weeks since our last pickup. To say the cans are overflowing would be an understatement
