He was probably as surprised as anyone that the fucking idiot threw the ball to him instead of going to second.  In the pic he still isn't to the bag and Kozeal is already ready to receive the throw to turn it for 2.

Looking at that, I'm going to through a little shade Iredale's way.  He probably could and should have thrown to first for the double.  The throw would have beat him there.

I didn't see the same struggle by Gibler.

He struck out Pearson.

He got Curiel to 2-2 before the grounder that Robinett brain farted on.

He walked Frey, but you have to be careful with him in that situation.

He threw a first pitch strike to Milam, then the grounder to Aloy that should've ended the game.


You can say we should have gone to a righty to face Frey, ok maybe. But Gibler had been working low, which is ideal to keep the ball in the park there.

Or we could have brought in either Coil or Jimenez to face Milam. As the announcers pointed out, Milam was more dangerous from the left side of the plate, so you would go to Coil and maybe that was the thing to do. But again, Gibler induced a tailor-made double play ball.

So yeah, maybe after that trauma, you go to someone else just to slow things down or give them a look they hadn't seen. I can't really argue that one.


My overall point being, something bad was eventually going to happen primarily because that's our fate. I don't totally buy that we shrink from the moment. If we did, we would've simply tucked tail at 2-1 and curled up in the corner against Shores (as several in this very thread seemed to do).

I agree with this. Miscalculation. Casual throw to third. Was going to question Iredale not throwing to first too, but it's been posted now. Nothing different than the blunders the night before, just had a bigger lead then.

DVH has finished 2nd and 3rd in the nation now and is usually Top 10 every year.

DVH didn't lose us that game last night. Coaches are the quickest and easiest to blame. Players are the one's who win/lose games 99% of the time.

Only two of those were as fluky as the stuff that's happened against us - Reed's halfcourt shot and the Heave. We got smoked the next game in basketball and Berted the rest of that football season.

Other than Thurman's shot and Sales running wild against OU (neither of which had anything to do with a good break), none of those were of lasting significance in terms of a championship or legendary season.

Heck, only three of them happened in the postseason. 

In baseball, will give you Brady Toops' slam and Eibner's CWS home run, which of course were both on DVH's watch.

I was talking about in the biggest championship moments, which is what the general discussion was about.
