Our baseball program just has the yips in Omaha.

I have a theory.  I think the deeper we get, the whole win one for the skipper is just too much for our guys.  Dave has to get that out of their heads and get them loose.  The harder you try to not screw up the more likely you do.

We never looked comfortable at the plate.  We looked pressed.  Except for Brian Thomas.  And of course Gage Wood is a champion.  Brian Thomas and Gage Wood.  That's it.


We have a self fulfilling curse because everyone in the country knows what happened in 2018.  Our team this year, when some of the guys said they wanted to win for Dave, I thought that's not good.

And sure enough.  Dave has been to 10 CWS.  He has been to only 1 final, and it was a disaster that lingers like a cloud over our program to this day.

It will be much like the basketball program under Cal. They will bring in good players and win a lot of games, but a championship probably isn't in the bag. When DVH retires, his replacement likely will not be as successful. 

I will enjoy the wins in baseball as I do in basketball, but adjusting my expectations to realize a title isn't happening unless something changes with the way they approach the CWS.

I don't have to have any qualifications or offer any advice to know 0 for 10 isn't working. With 2 horrible collapses now, it isn't going to get easier to get over the hump.

It doesn't change what DVH has done for the program. He elevated the program to elite status just not championship status.

DVH is kinda similar to what Bertman did at LSU, well, except for all the Championships.  If you take all 5 of those away, they are similar.  11 trips to CWS vs 10.  Built the programs into powerhouses.  They probably thought they would fall off after he left.

Since Bertman left in 2001, they have 8 CWS appearances and 2 titles, trying to make it 3.  Not bad...not bad.

I agree with this.

You heard it every press conference. Media chuds asking about how much it would mean to "win one for DVH" and all that.

Usually history doesn't and shouldn't matter, but people like Bubba and Phil were saying that the players were acutely aware of how much our fan base wanted this and that they felt that pressure.

I've posed this question on here before and was talking with my wife about it yesterday.

The question is this: when it comes to baseball, would you rather be Arkansas or Ole Miss?

Essentially, would you rather be consistently excellent in the regular season and have a trip to Omaha every 2-3 years (and come away empty handed of course), or would you rather be Ole Miss and go to Omaha twice under Bianco, be decent good but not excellent in the regular season but have some down years here and there, but fall as backwards into 1 title?

The football version is Auburn vs. Oregon. Would you rather continuously win 10-12 games and be in the hunt (but never win), or have one title but be a rollercoaster every year?

Me? I'm legitimately not sure. I love the feeling of following an elite baseball program from March to late May, but that gut punch come June is tough.

Fuck the Ole Miss' of the world.  I would rather be in the hunt every year.  Arkansas is legitimatly one dropped foul ball from a national championship and one terrible aweful not so good 9th inning from playing in a deciding game to go to the national championship.  We are going to win one before Dave retires.  Once we win the first one, we might damn well win a few more.
