Quote from: soldiersooie on Oct 25, 2025, 08:37 AMI was there when the field house was built.  I can't imagine what it all looks like now with all the updates and additions.  We were certainly a football school when Jerry Clay was coach.  What happened?

Gilleran and his Wing-T offense.  That's what happened.

Southlake beats some slapdicks 72-7

Elkins v. Southside was one of the better high school games I've watched in a long time. Elkins went up 10-0 on a FG in 1st qtr. Southside scored twice to go up 14-10 at halftime. Third quarter was a defensive battle with Elkins getting the better. Elkins went up 17-14, then missed a FG. After a change of possessions, Elkins punted to the 1 yard line. Southside threw out of the end zone just as the QB was getting hit and connected with the receiver for a 99 yard touchdown with under 5:00 to go and go up 21-17. Elkins moved back down the field to score making it 24-21, converting a couple 4th downs on the way and then held Southside finishing it off with an interception to end the game.
Next week it's a rematch of the 4A finals last year against Arkadelphia.
Win or loose Elkins has had a heckuva run.

I just followed along on my phone and it was stressful just watching the score and knowing nothing about the play-by-play.

What the coach has done there is nothing short of a miracle, just reloading year after year, after decades of being shitty.  I'll be surprised if he doesn't get poached by one of the bigger schools unless he is content there and happy.

Yeah they have had quite the run. We have a grandson that is a senior and plays there. His class has lost one regular season game since 8th grade and that was against Dardenelle the second game of the year this year. All the other losses have been in the playoffs to end the year.

Anybody old enough to remember the annual Thanksgiving Day rivalry games between LR Central/Hall High and NLR Old Main/LR Catholic?

I think they ended in the early 80's but they were a huge deal in the 60's and 70's.

Well, let's just say the final scores arrived in Conway via Pony Express.

Graduated from NLRHS in '76, absolutely.  No grandkids (yet).

Ha!

I actually think that's a tradition worth bringing back.

I played against NLR at their stadium the year Billy Burns was a senior and Phillip Dokes was a junior. Conway was AA then (NLR was AAAA) and our game uniforms had been handed down from the previous decade. When NLR came out looking like the Dallas Cowboys in their brand new uniforms the game was over before it started. Dokes actually ripped the facemask off our starting offensive guard.

Dokes was a f'n beast.  Can't remember what he ended up doing.

All-American at Okie State, then played a couple years for the Bills. Died of a MI at 34.

Oddly enough, Burns died in his 30's, as well.

Hoping my Elks and Dragons both come out on top tonight.  Feeling a bit better about the Dragons than the Elks, but we shall see.

The mighty Wampus Cats just took the lead over Bentonville 21-20, still 9 minutes left.

Hail to the Blue and White.

Bentonville just clanked a go-ahead field goal try off the upright. Cats' ball with 4:30 left.

In typical fashion for the playoffs, Conway choked at the end.

Three and out, punt, Bentonville gets a long run to get in goal to go range. Conway lets 1:30 tick off the clock without using a single timeout (they had two left). Bentonville scored the winning touchdown with :10 left.

FML.

I don't care if it's high school, that's a fireable offense.

Barton Fink

Sounds like Bryant had an incredible comeback against Rogers
