Quote from: dhog on Dec 06, 2025, 12:15 PMWhy does AAA keep having these championship games at this shithole? Way too big of a stadium for the event and it's a complete dump. Go to UCA or Tech, anywhere by WM. I saw people bitching about the low turnout in crowds.

Probably central location

AT&T Stadium hosting Texas state championships isn't much different, sure crowds are bigger but still feels empty

When I was a Soph I remember playing in WMS when Catholic played the first unified NLRHS team and there were 10,000 there (and if still felt for the most party empty).

Shiloh is making Archer look pedestrian.
56-36 starting the 4th.

I use the Dave Campbell app to keep up with certain Texas HS teams. My games this next Friday are going to be exciting, I hope. These six teams have 32 state championships between them and I bet they add more.

Their NIL game has been strong for decades.

Back in the 90s it was not unusual to see 25-30k there for some of the big games.

PBS cuts into that too. Why am I traveling to sit in the freezing temps when I can just flip it on at the house. Sit back nice and warm with a drink in my hand.

Football fatigue. These small schools, a lot of players going both ways, have to play 14 games in a season to make the championship game. Five teams in each conference goes to the playoffs in 4A. No reason to play that many games.

I'm sorry but they aren't playing football.

70-50? that's some sort of 7 on 7 bullshit fast break track meet.

I saw a first at the Elkins v. Stuttgart game Friday night. The officiating was terrible, not a lot of calls but a five minute conference on any call made and they seemed completely lost the whole game. Elkins kicks off after a TD and Stuttgart fields it at the five and starts up the field, gets the sideline at about the 20 and ends up scoring on a long KO return. During the return a ref throws a flag around their 20 yard line and stands there. The runner scores on the other end, the ref jogs down to around mid field, long conference, finally they call personal foul on Stuttgart during the runback, counted the score and accessed the foul on the kickoff. Fortunately it meant nothing to the outcome of the game.

I can't speak to all the officiating, but I think they got this right (assuming NFHS rules are the same as NCAA rules in this situation...and I think they are).  If there was a personal foul on the kicking team when the receiving team returned the KO for a TD, they have the option to have it enforced on the try or the kickoff.

Was the receiving team...

Correct, it was a personal foul on the receiving team. They allowed the TD and enforced the foul on the kickoff.

Sorry...I misread the explanation.  Y'all are right, the receiving team can't score and commit a personal foul unless the personal foul is after the score.  If it was after the runner crossed the goal line, or very close to where the officials weren't sure of the timing, the score would count and then the foul would be enforced.

This was during the play.  I don't think they were cheating as much as just bumbling idiots.
