on defense?

Quote from: Son of Spam on Sep 20, 2025, 05:10 PMI was thinking about that last 1st down by Memphis where their QB drug our 900 pound lineman for 12 yards. That is what happens when you try to strip the ball instead of making a tackle. However, they were apparently much better at protecting the ball than we were.

Not tackling him was one of the most ignorant things I've ever seen.

7-19 in one score games under Pittman.  That isn't a talent issue, that is a coaching issue.

Is it against the rules to tackle below the waist now? I ask because nobody seems to do it. When those mobs are pushing the RB forward, why doesn't someone get in their legs?
I had a coach who used to say "you clamp that back's knees together, I guarantee you he's going down".

I notice the "we need more talent" crowd was absent today.

I wasn't commenting because the shitty talent was giving shitty effort. I'm not so sure one of our db's is a lgbqtdb.

Nope.   We were just outmanned.  Clearly Memphis State has a better NIL program.

No shit. Everyone seems to go for the shoulder pads to tackle. Hit those knees. They will go down.
Well, shit...

Any change that doesn't get rid of Yurachek is a band-aid.  He preaches mediocrity.

How do giant pussies like he and Jeff Long ever get that far and become ADs?

I'm on smoko, so leave me alone.

As I have said. To rid the program of the cancer known as fucking Sam Pittman, drastic measures are required.  He is incapable of winning 10 games or ever getting us to an important game.  I don't enjoy that position but this is pro ball now.  I know this program can win with enough money and great coaching.  You're the one that cursed the team with your early game proclamations.  Pride goest before a fall.

You're probably right. Buying better players seems to be working for TT.

They haven't played a roster full of All-Americans like we saw wearing blue tiger stripes today.  Memphis must have paid a trillion for those guys.

Well I didn't get to see the game, but I listened to the whole thing.  I think it's very obvious we need more talent, especially on the defensive line and in the secondary. We don't have a single d-lineman that consistently gets pressure on the qb.  Nobody tackles the other team.  And consistently Chuckles was talking about how open their receivers were.  I think lack of talent is a major issue, exacerbated by poor coaching.

We definitely need more talent.  No one is arguing otherwise.   But we didn't lose today to a more talented team.   Far from it.

Case in point is Sorey.   He's all SEC preseason, mentioned as a future NFL guy.  Was a 5-star recruit out of high school.   He is unequivocally a better athlete than anyone on the Memphis State roster.  But it doesn't fucking matter if he is constantly playing at half speed and no brains.

To win more than 7-8 games with Pittman we would need the equivalent of the Chiefs' roster.  That might not even be enough.

Quote from: HOGSRUNWILD on Sep 20, 2025, 04:58 PMWe LOST because we are poorly coached, especially on defense and have many players loafing.  That is a fact.

However, there were a crazy amount of huge calls that were drive killers or point drivers that significantly impacted the game.  Phantom holds that wiped out huge gains (MULTIPLE TIMES), PI's on 3rd downs that were blatant that weren't called that would have extended drives into scoring position, the OPI.  There was a legit probably 17+ points worth of calls made.  It really was quite uncanny.  We should have won handily even with them, but holy shit it was pretty fucking blatant and if we were playing an SEC school, I would be fucking nuclear with rage right now over the calls.  This was Florida 09 bad today, just didn't seem so bad because we should have won anyway.

Should have just stopped with the first bit.  No way in hell this game was lost to the officials.  None of it.  Sam got his shit pushed in, yet again, because he's a horrible fucking coach.

Did you realize we played Memphis today? Not Georgia or Alabama?

Snorts

Anyone watching the game on delay do me a favor. Watch the pursuit. Watch the players behind the ball.

If you can't tell the level of effort is bottom barrel you know nothing John Snow. We trotted, jogged, loafed and pussied around the entire game. It is disgraceful.

Not sure better players try any harder in this culture.

It wasn't lost to the officials but that doesn't change the FACT that the officials made several horrible calls that impacted the final score of the game.  We SHOULD have won handily anyway with even moderately competent coaching though so that is why I'm not blaming the officials for the loss.

Of course I did.  We didn't even have the talent to compete with them. Exactly my point.

What struck me on that play where the backup QB drug our defensive lineman down the field was that there were no other razorbacks in on the tackle.  That guy should have been swarmed.

Your point is dumb.  We have the talent to compete with Memphis.  We don't have the coaching or the effort.
