High character and being a asshole are not mutually exclusive you can be both at the same time.

How does HY define "high character"? Prays after practice? Doesn't cuss? Doesn't yell at referees after corrupt calls? Didn't cheat on his wife 13 years ago?

There were also people who thought Houston Nutt was high character. Was Pittman "high character"?

If HY had said it was important to get a coach that wins football games, I would have begrudgingly given that to him since RS has won a lot more recently than BP.
"That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar when his parents asked him to babysit."

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

Once authored a post that critics claimed, "Was notaslibro level."

My HS baseball coach was high character and rarely cussed.  When you did get cussed at you knew you had done fucked up and better get with it.  He was also 6'4" 250, former OM defensive lineman.  He didn't have to cuss to get his point across but could get the most out of you and was "high character" type guy.

Right. And being a Christian is certainly not mutually exclusive from being low character and/or an asshole. Lots of overlap on that 3 circle Venn diagram.

Based on the presser, I think (hope?) RS is going to be a perfect personality blend of Pittman and Petrino.

He seems to have Pitt's knack for bonding personally with his athletes (which the robotic BP lacks) but ,unlike Pitt, he also seems like he will demand and earn their respect as part of the bargain...basically a "you earn my trust and I'll go to the wall for you; the same wall I will nail your balls to if you break that trust" relationship.

He also seems to have BP's obsessive attention to detail (he's already changed the light bulbs in the meeting rooms) and fiery passion for perfection.

Obviously, actions speak louder than words and results are the ultimate metric but it's refreshing to have a press conference without the "aw, shucks" country bumpkin routine of Pitt or the emotionless android-reading-the-news presentations by Bobby.

I've known many pastors in my life, my dad included and most were not overly as solid as they believed themselves to be. But I guess we could say the same for most of us.

It always bothered me watching men of the cloth essentially take advantage of their position by leaning on others to get things done. Being part of a "church family" can come at great cost in the name of the church and fellowship.

Got fired by Dave Aranda at Baylor before getting picked up by Napier at UF.
Things of that nature

Don't think so. We weren't going to get some high flying defensive coach. He's got SEC experience. Whatever. It's more about getting the talent up.

I didn't like the hire but I like RS after listening to him. Maybe it's just refreshing to see ...life in the top guy once again. He's high energy and confident and seems strong at developing relationships. He does come across as genuine.

Supposedly a booster gave a 7 figure donation to the program after a 5 minute conversation with him. Once again, begs the question why HY is still here. Not only strategic errors in the football program but RS seems better at fund raising and developing relationships than him.

Was okay at Auburn in 2023. Always had suspect offenses too which plays a part.

If we're going retreads who suck I'd have just as soon kept Wilson.  He did a decent job given the complete lack of talent he was given.

I like the other two hires. Cramsey was solid at Memphis and Smith has a decent rep as a recruiter.

How does he suck? Who are the "good" defensive coordinators? Maybe five in the whole country.

Agree with all of that.  I don't think he'll be tough to like, now he just needs to show some progress and win some games.  I'm hopeful and it seems like it may work out to be a really good hire.  The portal will really show where we're at.  I don't really know the DC and OC he's bringing in but I'll trust that he's confident in them.

Suck is probably a strong word.  He's definitely not a guy who has a history of getting the most out of his talent.

Stats (all at teams with far better defensive talent than we've had in recent years):

2025 Florida 84th ypg, 127th 3rd down %
2024 Florida 75th ypg, 70th 3rd down %
2023 Auburn 51st ypg, 17th 3rd down %

Thats perfect for Arkansas.  We are already in the 120s from a defensive ranking perspective.  He can get us into the 110s and call it a success.
