Nothing is going to change until leadership changes from the BOT down to the AD.

If you remember a few weeks ago an analyst came in and told the board its recommendations on how to get Arkansas to compete more with other SEC schools. One BOT member was quoted saying, "We are not a win at all cost school." JFC! What the analyst was proposing wasn't even close to that!

That has been the problem for years. There seems to be people that are afraid of pushing the envelope for whatever reason. I think it has to be evangelical attitude for some where everything they do or support has to be a reflection of their beliefs.

This is a dead horse issue that has been pulverized and until things change at the top, we are not going anywhere. NIL has exposed our unwillingness to adapt except for basketball and that is run by Tyson.

Funny how Kiffin was clamoring for contracts and freshman salary caps. We are headed to a premier league whether we like it or not.

JFB sold the booster class on this idea that we were pure as the driven snow, that we didn't play the games the other schools did to buy talent (back when it was against the rules).  He also knew not to tell them the whole story, to let them keep actually believing it.

Make no mistake we were always cleaner than the programs we competed against.  We weren't getting in on the bidding wars for most players, weren't buying cars for recruits, etc.  There's a reason the NCAA couldn't pin anything on us until the Ted Harrod affair.  But once they got to campus, players never wanted for anything major.

Apparently we've got some trustees who took Frank's public narrative as gospel truth.  Probably some of the ones who didn't actually attend the U of A, or who didn't know any athletes who were being taken care of under the table.

I have a friend who was All-SWC for the Hogs in the early 70's and he told me there was a $100 bill waiting in his locker after every game.

Quote from: animal on Jul 24, 2026, 06:32 AMSilverfield understands what it will take to build a winner here, arguably others did too. He's got the charisma to maybe make some of that happen. It's going to take private interest (e.g. Tyson, Wal-Mart, JB HUNT) to kick start because the fans aren't shitting out NIL dollars for a continually shitty product. The fans are not going to emotionally or even financially invest in players that we all know treat every play like a business decision. Lots of other programs fans will just suck it up and fork over the money but Arkansas fans seem to have that radar for bullshit and vote with their wallets probably more so than most other SEC fan bases. That comes with the territory of failing to meet even the minimum goals over the last several years unless you count Texas and Liberty Bowls as = Mission Accomplished.

From the top the message has been about the tall task and the impossible challenges we face in the SEC. It completely ignores that Indiana in a comparable league just bought themselves a fucking ring. How you ask? Money and competence from leadership. They ignore that Ole Miss was absolutely our equal if not beneath us 20 years ago or that LSU was arguably our equal until the late 90s when Saban elevated them. Or that we would get the odd victory against Alabama now and then back in the day even. This program has fallen further and further behind for a variety of reasons but mostly because of fucked up decision making from the front office. That salt in the wound feasters even more now that we can literally fucking buy players and still can't make panties drop. That's 1000% a leadership issue.

Saying Indiana bought a title is incorrect. You really think they outspent Michigan and Ohio State?
Cignetti wins because he has a blueprint, he won with dudes he recruited to James Madison.

Talent evaluation and coaching still matter.
If it was about money the aggies would have won under fisher.

The key is finding the head coach who stays committed and driven after the first contract extension.

Money wasn't an issue here when we were winning, but like everywhere else, it is when you are not.

I respect silverfield for putting it out there and then backing it up with action and going to connect with people and businesses, which we have been lacking in the athletic administration

A quote from a former basketball player while I was in school, remembered as best I can so likely not 100% accurate but the point is clear.

"Walk by Wilson Sharp.  Listen to all the stereos you hear blasting.  How do you think those guys bought all that equipment?"

Another friend did payroll for a company then in the Walmart/Sam's vendor orbit around the same time.  One of his jobs was to deliver paychecks to their warehouse.  There was always one for guys named Beck, Williamson, Thurman, etc.

Frank and Nolan both had an outstanding ability to look the other way while a few boosters took care of things.

The last time had competent management was with Petrino.  And guess what?  He won.  But they ran him off because he was a dick.

Bert was a drunk and Long was bad.  Morris was a bad hire but in my mind not as bad as the Pittman hire.  I mean yes, Morris was a worse coach than Pittman but the hire itself, while no means a good hire, was not just an abject surrender like hiring a career offensive line coach who would have retired had we not hired him.  The fact that he did as well as he did for a bit is more a testament to the fact this job is not as shitty as it is made out to be than anything good he did.

A big part of our problem is that our leadership when it fails, always makes excuses.  Maybe not publicly always, but they've always had their little media friends who are all too willing to get the story about how "tough" it is at Arkansas and so on and so forth.  Say that shit enough and people start to believe it.

This is an important distinction.  We got lucky as hell that Pittman wasn't pure trash from the jump.  What made the Morris hire so bad was that we had an indisputably better option who had not only agreed to take the job but signed an offer sheet, yet we chose Chad because the other guy allegedly liked blackjack and pussy.

Most of us here are of the age where we remember that Arkansas was considered to be just below the top tier of USC, Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc...and was considered relatively equal to slightly above programs like Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, and Georgia.  We've just been beaten down so long...not so much by our own limitations as by decades of incompetent leadership...that we started believing what used to be a false narrative put out by ESPN and spread by the fat fuck agent in Memphis.  Poor lil Arkinsaw...can't compete with the big boys.

We've won division titles with a former stud who was mailing it in and a functional retard.  We won 9 games with a career OL coach essentially running things like a day care.  A hardcore alcoholic won 7 and 8 games against difficult schedules.  Our job is nowhere near as bad as the media and now our own admin portrays it to be.

Quincy Rhodes was All-SEC last year. Also, he was never committed to Memphis, he just said his first D1 offer was from Memphis.

Exactly. People just making shit up now about the guy. I'm giving him a chance because it sounds like he has a plan to get of out of the cellar, and it won't happen overnight.

Correct. AND, the BIG 10 is not comparable to the SEC top to bottom. Indiana's league opponents combined conference record last year was 29-52.

Arkansas' opponent combined conference record was 34-30 and 5 of them were ranked.
