Do you think the bold part is true? To make a simple example, do you think Mississippi State will make a $$$ offer to KJ, but we won't make a $$$ offer to Will Rogers? If so, are we behind the curve AGAIN?

If we offer after they have said they are leaving that's not really poaching.  The school also has deniability from not knowing what fans might be doing.

We better do that, especially if everyone else is. College Football is no place to stand on your principles. That's how you lose. You have to be cutthroat.

Use backdoor channels if you must, so that you can say "we" aren't recruiting people to transfer, but one way or another, players at other schools need to be told "hey, if you go to Arkansas, here's what they'll offer a QB/OL/WR, etc like you..."

Re: QB capabilities. Without going back to find the posts, there were comments here about how Ryan Mallet and Lamar Jackson weren't scientific rockets, either (comparing KJ).

In his press conference, Petrino specifically said that they were. He said Mallet was one of his smartest quarterbacks ever, and Lamar Jackson was the same way. They could both go to the line of scrimmage, see the defense, and get you out of a bad play call.

People assumed Mallett was a dumb ass because of the way he carried himself, but he was a bright guy, especially in terms of football.

I'm pretty sure Mallett got a 27 on the Wonderlic test which put him slightly above average for NFL QBs and quite a bit above several other guys who were perceived as "bright" around that same time.

I imagine the players themselves probably converse and if there is interest in gets run up the flag pole. Then back down the flag pole when the poached player is given a number or maybe assurances that there is interest once they entered

I would expect Eric Mateos to be named the replacement. He was a GA under Sam during his first stint here, and has been the OL coach at BYU and Baylor.

He wasn't good either.  Briles' system is much more forgiving of poor line play due to the splits.
