Yeah, with the added context, it makes it a different comment. What some of these kids are pulling in on nil is comparable to(or more than) what you would get with a professional degree. The problem is that most don't know how to be smart with it and might get preyed upon by bad actors. Just like most professional athletes or somebody that grows up dirt poor and hits the lottery. Nothing new here and isn't that what we were going for? Stripping the student tag and paying them like semi-professional players? I agree they need to be better educated on how to handle their new-found wealth

For whatever it is worth, I had dinner with friends in Hot Springs this weekend.  Their condo complex has had some fairly substantial construction repairs in the last year. They told me their contractor was the same one that worked on remodeling Pittman's place, and still does maintenance type stuff for him.  The contractor told them that Pittman was one of the nicest men they had ever worked for-- he goes around to everyone who is working on any day, and introduces himself and asks how they are doing, etc. 

So, nice guy.  More importantly-- win some more football games!

It's the same for a lot of guys in the military. Fresh off momma's teat and first time out in the world for most, many will quickly find themselves in trouble. No matter what their ncos and staff ncos tell them about being careful to not overextend themselves or to stay away from girls just looking for a free ride, I couldn't tell you how many privates and pfcs we had that found themselves either married, with a car payment they couldn't afford, credit cards maxed, or all three within a year of joining.
