texass and michigan are on at 11:00, bama and wisconsin are on at 11:00, michigan and osu are on at 11:00, as well as two of the college playoff games. did they all get fucked?

that time slot has been having really good games for the last few years. it's not the sign of disrespect some of you are making it out to be.

It's still a sign of disrespect in the SEC, where afternoon and night games are preferred. 

Otherwise the league wouldn't have instituted a policy where no team has more than two home games in the early window per year. 

That said, the matchup with Texass means a lot to us, but not nationally.  It's just another game to the league office and the people in charge of TV programming.  We're a 4-8 team from last year that probably will fall short of that record in the current season.  No one wants to see us play, and no one gives a shit what we think.

We played Georgia when we were #10 and they were #1 right after ESPN Gameday on ESPN at 11:00 am.

The 11:00 game is not for shitty games all of the time now.

mich-osu almost always play at 11. Most of WI big games are at 11. For some reason the Big 10 likes 11am for the big games. Can't wait for Mich-USC at 9am PT

I think the Big10 likes the 11am games because of the weather...especially late in the season.  It gets cold earlier in the year in Big10 country, and it's better to play when the sun is out. 

The opposite could be said for the SEC.  As hot as it is early in the season, no one wants to play or sit in the stands when it's 100 degrees outside.  It's much better to do that when kickoff is at 7pm.  Plus, schools like LSU want to give the extra 8 hours for their fans to get drunk before kickoff.

I think in terms of ratings the early games do well these days.  It wasn't always like that.

I think it has changed to mean that you have to have a high level of commitment from the fans and high roller donors to support the malcontents young men on the team that need paid in order to compete at the highest level/ attract the best talent. Nothing has changed really other than we're saying the quiet part out loud and I imagine the money is growing now that it's more or less a open trade system with little or no penalty to the student-athlete to leave on a whelm.

The one dynamic that I think you can really count on is that loyalty is totally out the window. Anyone depending on home grown talent or not having to go far to get the best talent may find now that others with deep pockets are knocking on those doors they might find themselves competing against schools they never would have in the past. The power dynamic in college sports could potentially shift significantly over the next few years.

Specifically about football I think we're already seeing it with Alabama even with Saban still there and that will likely intensify with him out of the chair. You take LSU...they've got a good coach so they probably will be fine but what's to stop deep pockets from coming in there and pulling out talent they never would have sniffed before? Doesn't OK Lite have some high roller donors? Where are they at?

Yes. Please cheat. Act like we belong in the SEC after 30+ years. I'm not even sure what constitutes cheating these days since there are no rules. In all seriousness, when someone says "get serious about football" I think they're referring to the way that Ole Miss and Missouri have adjusted to at least compete with the big boys in the conference. Though it may just be that they hired the 2 coaches we really wanted the same year and we got plan F because he was the only one who would take the job.

We can want to win as much as anyone but it doesn't mean shit if there's no killer instinct to actually do it. I think the reality is that the resources probably aren't there for football anymore because the folks who can afford to help see a clearer path to a trophy in basketball and baseball. We picked the absolute worst time to suck asshole in football for over a decade. If NIL came along in 2011 I think we would be just fine, but it didn't. We will have to pay even more to attract elite recruits now and there are hardly any in-state.  Not to mention the exorbitant premium for a coach because our head coaching job is seen as a coaching graveyard.

But to say we aren't "serious" has no real meaning to me.

I fucking hate Drinkwitz but he's light years better than Pittman. It sucks but it's true. Results matter.

To put our "seriousness" another way, how many SEC programs do you think would've kept Pittman this long? Vandy doesn't count. Maybe 1? I think S Car and Miss St would've bounced him already. I don't dislike Pittman. I think the reality is that we couldn't afford to fire him in the offseason and/or we put out feelers and no one worth a shit wanted it. I do think we'll pull the plug after this season if it goes as expected and will probably be very fortunate if we could get Barry Odom to take the job.

bert walked away with $8 million, chad with ten. i don't think the powers that be were too keen on letting pittman walk with something like twelve, especially since that amount will be half after five(?) games.

i think unless the guy pulls off a miracle and wins 8 games, sam is gone one way or another.

find someone the money dudes can get excited about (jeff traylor?) and the program can at least get competitive again.
