Sam is the type coach that if you have a seven win team, you'll win four or five, a nine win team you'll win seven, and an eleven win team eight or nine.  It is what it is.  He is always going to underperform.

I'm out here on the dock smoking a cohiba, drinking four roses and watching the last of the games. I'm reminded how many far more enjoyable things there are than Razorback football. No fanbase deserves these last 12 years.

Same as Bert's teams. By 2015 or 2016, you could tell that fear of a second half collapse had so infected our team and program culture that it was almost a given in games. I almost remember preferring to be trailing or tied at halftime of big games as opposed to leading. The biggest manifestation of it was the Belk Bowl.

This notion that Sam isn't the one fumbling snaps, putting ball in the turf, or body slamming a ball carrier on 3rd and 10 is completely farcical to me,  because as the leader of this team he created the soft, accountability-less environment conducive for those errors to happening.

Anyone who's led people and teams in any job function in corporate America understands this. When you stop holding people accountable, stop sweating the details, don't lead by example, are too deferential, and don't lead effectively through the tough situations, you start to have quality issues, people start coming in later and leaving earlier, and overall team performance slips.

At the end of the day, this is on Yurachek, who I've wanted gone for years. Not only did he allow this farce to continue after last year threw back the curtain on how poor of a program leader Pittman really is, he's also a front-running coward of a leader. Front and center on Twitter and Hogs+ when we win, AWOL when we lose. Funny how he conveniently disappeared during the Morris years, during the second half of basketball last season, during last year's football season, etc. but was everywhere during 2021, the Elite Eight runs, and in postgame videos after a W. His social media theatrics are tiresome too, and the Muss Bus thing after last season was a forehead slapper, especially in hindsight after Muss left.

Can we go back to Sam's first timeout late in the 4th? I'm a little hazy on it this morning but at the time the play clock had 25 seconds on it.

Was it stopped at 25 while the refs reset the ball, or had it not been reset to 40 seconds yet?

After a couple of games, my take...

The Hogs are a much better team than last year.
Last year's team gets beaten by 3 TD's in this game.

The QB play is better although he makes bad decisions when pressured like most QBs do.
The RB is better
The OL is better
The WR's are better coached and run MUCH better patterns.
The play calling is MUCH better.
The DL looks OK to good.  They were in the right gaps on runs but didn't' get much pressure.  That may be a very experienced Okie State OL as much as anything our DL is lacking.
Our secondary is better but I wouldn't go as far as saying good.  The only complete bust was the TE leaking out on the trick play.  They gave up a big pass deep that was on the safety cheating to the other side and couldn't get back.   We were in position on just about every play.  Not sure anybody back there is a difference maker but nobody was a clear weakness.
The LB play was MUCH better.   We have a lot more speed at LB.  When we did blitz (and it was rare) we got home or made the QB move.  I was a bit surprised at how conservative our D calls were but suspect they don't trust the secondary as much yet.  We had no cover zero that I saw but there may have been a play or two.

The punt team is bad.  Nobody should get pushed back into the punt catcher not once but twice.  You aren't that close to him first of all, and you go hit a man, not fall back and let yourself get hit.  Just a lack of toughness and aggressiveness by our blockers.

The FG kicker was not good.  Maybe that's nerves but it might have helped to pop his cherry the prior week against UAPB.  Instead of trying to score 70 and set some meaningless 10-10 record, maybe run the ball right up the middle on third down knowing you aren't likely to make it to get the young FG kicker on the field.  He looked scared to death on the first one against Okie St.  It looked like they pulled some dude out of the crowd trying to win the Pepsi challenge kick. 

Discipline was a continuing problem although the number of holdings, false starts and pre snap penalties were down.  Kind of a mixed bag.  The WWE suplex move was a mistake but likely more on the kid than the coach.
