I originally assumed Odom would keep Petrino (he did have him hired at UNLV before A&M poached him) and Marion would take over as HC in Vegas.  Heard this morning that it was allegedly Marion who offered the $100K to the Holy Cross QB without authorization.  I wonder if that might prevent him from getting the job. 

I'd be great with Petrino staying as OC, but I think Marion's system is more idiot proof with respect to QBs, so he might be a better fit for us.

Would love for the current defensive staff to stay, but not sure their philosophies mesh as well with what Odom likes to run.  Plus, if their side of the ball keeps performing well Williams might be in line for an upgrade.

Not to mention during that time, mizzou's schedule was far easier than Arkansas's.

I do want to put it out there that I don't hate Sam.  I don't get the nasty comments about his weight and the juvenile name calling. 

I appreciate what he inherited and I appreciate what he has and continues to try to do.  I think he has been a stand up guy and has given everything he has to make the team better and win football games.

However, just like with Nutt, he has a ceiling that isn't acceptable and its time to move on.

He's gotten chippy with some on Twitter. He wants out, so it's gonna happen at some point regardless. I think Odom will do okay for a year or two then go downhill quickly like his D here the first time around.

I believe the portal opens the Wednesday after the Missouri game. If we're making a switch we would be better making the announcement early, whether he remains as coach for the full season or not. The new recruiting calendar really fucks teams who are switching coaches.

Unless there is some material financial reason not to do it, once the decision has been made the firing should occur.

With that said, I think Sam still deserves the right to win more games.  If we lose the next three games then they should pull the trigger.

if it's odom, petrino will stay and who knows, another year of coaching and maybe, maybe, green can be decent. they will have to get the o-line fixed.

to me odom makes the most sense, but sense doesn't seem to come into play too often in arkansas football coaching searches. he's got experience both in the sec and at arkansas, will be inexpensive, and it appears that some of the money guys like him.

just my opinion, but things went to shit with pittman after odom wasn't around to hold his hand. i think he had more to do with what little success sam has had than given he's credit for.

I've assumed Odom would be the next coach for the last year. If he continues to have a good season he may have better offers.

Other than his record, particularly the one score thing, my only real beef with Sam is that I question the sincerity of his "aw shucks, I'm just happy to be here" persona.  It's hard to reconcile that with the guy who fired the agent who got his foot in the door for the job to hire Jimmy fucking Sexton. 

If we were trying to fuck him over on the contract I could see it I guess.  From what I've heard and seen that doesn't appear to be the case.  He was the fucker rather than the fuckee, or the pitcher versus the catcher in that scenario.

None of that necessarily makes him a bad guy, but when you use the "I love Arkansas" schtick to get a job you're not qualified to hold (on paper at least), pulling something like that makes you fair game for criticism.

I think older coaches see us as an easy mark. Come in, promise the world, have a decent first year, get a contract extention and pay raise and a pretty big buyout, then suck and get fired, retire and get that big payout. And we fall for it every time.

That really disappointed me when that happened.  I still struggle to reconcile that internally.  On the one hand I get it... He's gotta look out for himself and his.  Business wise, probably the right move.  But he strikes as a "good dude", and the good dude he seems to be would have kept the first lady.  I can't fault him for moving to Sexton... but I feel like I'd like him more (as a dude) if he kept her.  I mean, I still "like" him... He just isn't the coach to get it done.  I feel like my respect for him would return if he would just resign and say he's a man of his word.  If that makes sense.

He blames players and alludes to blaming assistants.  He makes excuses.  He's responsible for what happens or fails to happen.  More importantly, he's responsible for fixing it.  Same shit over and over.
