I know we do this to ourselves every time we hire a coach. Usually we are talking about firing a coach after the 2nd year so it's really more or less a never ending topic for Razorback fans.

We just have to keep in mind it's almost never who we think it will be that ends up getting hired. I agree Odom seems like an obvious choice to at least bring him in for a interview but we're still in these situations where we want to latch on to a past that often times wasn't much better than it is now which probably puts us into this cycle of bad hires to begin with. 

NIL is ultra important...they've made no secret about that which is why I think they have to create some sizzle to get the fans engaged in shitting out more money. There really isn't any sizzle with any of these coaches being mentioned including the ones I mentioned. So again you can go older guy but he needs to bring a lot of credibility. If not you really need a younger dude that brings a lot of energy and I'm not talking about parachuting into arena kind of energy. We don't want clowns we want someone that is a grinder. Someone that understands how to build a modern roster and manage it. Those guys don't just fall off the turnip truck you gotta go out and find them and grab them by the ass and tell them to come on.

I don't have an issue with his age because I think (haven't talked to the guy obviously) he hopefully has motivation to prove he can win on the big stage as a HC.

Not that we are the big stage, but we are in the SEC.  We have more potenshul than Indiana, IMO.

I disagree. Games are won during practice. Petrino's practices, for the whole team, were very detailed. I've been at Nutt's practices and Petrino's. Night and day. I can tell from Sam his practices aren't fixing anything.

I also feel that the OC has to conform to Pittman. I say that because we've seen three now that all look to have the same type of structure in a game. The only thing missing this year is cute trick plays on offense. Those are now on special teams. That's Pittman.

I also feel that the OC has to conform to Pittman. I say that because we've seen three now that all look to have the same type of structure in a game. The only thing missing this year is cute trick plays on offense. Those are now on special teams. That's Pittman.

I was at a lot of Nutt's practices when Gus was there.  The offense practiced a whole lot harder than the defense did, and the WR group was putting in a lot of work that year. 

I still go back to Chad's first spring when there were reports of players trying to sit out of reps during conditioning because that's what Bert allowed.  We've looked like that again ever since Sam came back.  DJ, Joe, and Jarius talked about how hard and helpful the Full Metal Friday workouts were for them when they went into the 4th quarter feeling like they'd just finished the warmup - we definitely don't have that level of conditioning.

The problem with hiring Odom is that we'd be perpetuating the issue of hiring a former assistant from a failed coach's staff.

Pittman was on Bert's staff for 3 years and we see many of the issues that plagued those teams still persistent in our program.

Odom was also on Pittman's staff for 3 years. While we had some success with him on staff, his defenses were horrendous.

If we're going after current/former assistants, I'd prefer to roll the dice with Travis Williams. He's played and coached in the SEC, is young, recruits pretty well out of the portal, and his defense has been a bright spot this year.

Odom strikes me as a high floor, low ceiling type of guy, whereas Williams seems to have a lot of upside to go along with the inherent risk of rolling the dice on an assistant.

The talent gap is overstated at this level. 

Your average 5-Star isn't 66.7% better than most 3-Stars.  Probably closer to 10%.  Get your group of 3's in the right system, supplement with a few 4's at key positions and you can be competitive. 

The margin for error is much smaller but not insurmountable.  Most of us would be satisfied with the guys we have playing at or near their potential.
