I'm gonna guess that 10% is going to go toward hiring a GM staff as it was more or less implied that there would be a number of people under the Celtics guy.

a lot of overlapping responsibilities, and people in positions that weren't doing much in today's environment.

it was definitely a cost cutting thing more so than moving the salaries around. supposedly some of the names will be a bit of a surprise.

There's a big reason the Saban's of the world have left this shit show. It's messy. No contracts? We want people that want to be here! BS. Doesn't work that way anymore. GM sounds like a sharp guy but he's likely just a puppet.

Whatever role the multiple assistant athletic directors among many other titled positions (that seemingly did little or nothing) is probably going to be transitioned to others who have entirely different skill sets was my earlier parse, namely with a focus on sports entertainment & management...like a professional sports franchise. In other words the way athletic departments have been run over the last so many decades is very likely to be a distant memory very soon. 

I'm not going to say I know it all on the subject but just reading bios of some of these dudes and gals in the athletic department over the years a good many seem to be more so from academia and the title is just a stepping stone role to get to some other spot up the food chain. At some point you have to peel back on that shit and get hella legit sports people in the building that know how to talk to prospective players, know how to put together a scouting and sports medicine dept...and so on. Running a major university athletic program today is like running 4 professional sports teams under one building. It's a tall order and even taller when you have yokels and completely ill-equipped people for the modern reality.

I'm an Arkansas guy.  Grew up in the state.  Went to Fayetteville.  My kid is starting there this fall.  Safe to say I love it.  But I have to say the college visiting experience was pretty eye opening.  Arkansas had the most lackadaisical, slapdash, amateurish experience of anywhere we visited.  And  that carried over to the orientation.  And I know the parents of a  couple of athletes who took recruiting visits all over the country who said the same thing.

While I can't speak to Athletics geared orientation, I agree that their general "Hey, come to our University!" stuff was pretty tame.  The EE department was excellent as far as tours go but their general tour was just okay.  

Ole Miss was just the opposite. Engineering tours was terrible but their main tour was hit out of the ball park.  

CO School of Mines was A+ on both.
