1.  Tennessee would have gone in dry on us in Atlanta.  Still in the Citrus Bowl, probably 11-2 instead of 9-3.
2.  Nutt would probably be our AD right now.  Markuson would be head football coach.  Dickey or Dennis Nutt = basketball coach.

Quote from: DirkPiggler on Jul 21, 2023, 03:44 AMI'd keep the same first two.

I'd use 2 vs Miami in 1988.  That makes that team 11-0, and likely sets up a Cotton Bowl of #2 Arkansas vs #1 Notre Dame, Hatfield vs Holtz.  We probably still lose that, but Ken probably isn't forced to hire Jack Crowe.  Or, that enables Ken to get the Georgia job he coveted and thought he was getting, which sets us up to hire someone better than Crowe to replace him.  Having a better coach and an additional year of actually recruiting would have made our transition to the SEC much smoother.  Maybe we never would have fallen to bastard stepchild status had we come in near the top like we did in basketball.

For my last point I'd add 1 to the Ole Miss game in 2021.  If that one kept going into OT I like our chances (although I agreed with the decision to go for two). A win there would have given Pittman a 10 win season in year two, and would have sent us to the Sugar Bowl instead of OM.

Just noticed I misremembered the score of the 1988 Miami game. It was 18-16, not 18-17 as I had it in my mind. So use all three on that one, and drop the 2021 Ole Miss game from my list.

Since my goal would be to use the points in order to best secure a trip to the championship (in my lifetime) and with the caveat that it wouldn't improve Nutt's chances of sticking around like a turd that won't flush, I would have used 5 on the 2010 game against the gumps. Still one of the best game atmospheres I've ever been a part of and the place would have gone nuts if we pulled off the win. Then I remembered the plainstiggers had that season bought and paid for.

It may be a little bit of a stretch, but I think if we win the Alabama game and both teams are unbeaten when we play Auburn, we MIGHT have gotten a little more of a fair shake from the refs/replay booth, or at least might not have gotten screwed quite so hard and often.  The league didn't trust us to win out from that point, so an undefeated Auburn was the SEC's last, best hope for a national title.

I'd still lean towards the others because a couple more titles from the 60s, 70s and 80s could have elevated us into the upper echelon and gotten us into the conversation with the Alabamas, Ohio States, and Clemsons of the world instead of being lumped in with the Mississippi schools as have nots.  We could have gone into the SEC in position to contend rather than take it up the ass from everyone, and with respect instead of disdain from the charter members and the league office.  Having a couple more (and more recent) national championships on our resume could have prevented us from ever falling to the point where the refs could take advantage of us like they have over the last thirty years.

I'm repairing 2009 Florida and 2010 Alabama.

Can we just use one of those points for the 2021 uga beatdown? I know the score won't make sense, but would help soothe the battered pride.

Media vote Arkansas to finish 5th in the West (yet somehow get 3 votes for first). Rocket only Hog on 1st team, KJ, Latham, and McGlothern on 2nd. Gumbotigger's Daniels beats out KJ for 1st team qb.

I ran down that same rabbit hole.  Suppose we win and piss Saban off earlier....they then run the table (not losing at Williams-Brice or at LSU.  They win the Iron Bowl.  It's a 3 way tie at 11-1 for us, Auburn, and Alabama.  We win the coin flip to go to Atlanta, destroy SC, and end up in the BCSNCG against Oregon!   We lose in the final minute when the entire team loses focus because the Oregon cheerleaders strip and start pole dancing in the endzone.  The Oregon players don't notice because they're all gay.  NTTAWWT.

All 10 go to USC 2005.  Trying to make that one a little less embarrassing.

Part of me was thinking to use all 10 in any way that gets DMac the heiselman. But I had to push that feeling way down because it would more than likely mean Nutt moves into Frank's old office. And sorry, but nothing is worth that.

I'll take the Shootout game that I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's nut sack yet.

Beyond that I'll say anything that gets us a couple two or three wins against Nick Satan.

Quote from: Gambler on Jul 21, 2023, 02:05 AMSaw this on another site. If you could add 10 points to change your football history, how would you use them? Mine.
2 points against Texas 1969 we lost 15-14. Finished 10-1. Would have won it all.
5 points against Texas 1977 we lost 13-9. Finished 11-1. Would have won it all.
Fuck Texas.
1 point against SMU 1985 we tied 17-17. Refs sucked ass. Finished 10-2.
2 points against Alabama 2014 we lost 14-13. Just because we haven't beat them in a while.

Without using points, Reggie fish doesn't try to catch that punt.

Whats even more depressing is using all 10 points to make the 2018 North Texas game a little less embarrassing.

Or 2019 Western Kentucky?  We need a lot more points to play with here.

I miss these game threads.  I was laughing hysterically during both.

1969 Texas - 2 pts
2014 Bama - 2 pts (we beat Saban)
2011 Ohio St - 6 pts  (just so we can say we beat their asses on the field)
I need help and I know it.

The worst feeling after a loss I have ever felt was the Stoernover game.
