I think you are over blowing it on Matt Jones. He was a freak athlete that didn't really fit as football player at the pro level. Didn't have the hips to play WR...didn't have the arm to play QB. Would have been a really good basketball player had he focused on that and possibly could have been great at something like baseball perhaps as a pitcher. Who knows. As great of an athlete as he was I'm not by any means saying he would have been an NBA player had he focused on basketball but I do believe he could have made an excellent D1 ball player. He had a touch of greatness but never had a team around him good enough to win a Heisman...same deal with DMAC even though he was out right robbed twice.

I think the biggest thing about Matt Jones' time at Arkansas is we had a coach that let an eventual starting Pro football QB sit on the bench in order to ride Matt Jones who probably would have been a damn good combo as a receiver to Nuke Jackson. There are multiple examples of Nutt playing the wrong player thru the years. In fairness Jackson didn't really "flash" much while at Arkansas but I'm not convinced he was ever truly given the chance to lock down the starting job. He was coming in for a series to start each half and that was about it. That kind of shit today would be shamed out as racist.

KJ before the injuries started piling up was on a trajectory where it was seen as possible for him to really put up some special numbers. That didn't happen and as time went on he appeared to get dumber. I think his bell got rung a few too many times. Probably can't even pass a physical. Put him on Ohio State and he's basically exactly like that Jones dude or whatever his name was. Probably would have moved the ball because of all the talent around him despite the 10 cent head.

My comment was more about KJ and the hyper pumping of that dipshit as the greatest thing ever to take the field because he stumbled into some success with his pizza buffet body. He never had real nfl prospects because he's too stupid and lazy to succeed at that level.  No amount of coaching can create a brain cell.  Some round here thought he was a certain R1 pick with an all pro carreer ahead of him. 

As for Matt Jones, I never said he wasn't a solid QB here, but when he'd talk about quitting to be a missionary in Guatemala instead of playing ball his head wasn't in it.

There were some here who constantly stated jones was being deliberately sabotaged by the Del Rio coaching staff for a variety of nefarious reasons when he was kept around strictly because of his draft status.  He had no desire to run across an nfl secondary and take those hits.

Speaking of Leftwich though, this is still insane from 2002.  They're carrying him because of a broken leg, and he's still throwing shots downfield.  Can't help the poor video quality - it was filmed using a Helio Ocean.

I remember that pretty well...I think that injury led to Chad Pennington getting a shot to play. 


I watched a good deal of Matt Jones at Jacksonville and dude was getting open and the QBs weren't looking his way. He was good for one a few slants, and curls and would get some deep balls on occasion sneaking past the safeties. NFL dbs were misjudging his speed a lot. I think his real downfall was all the injuries much like with Burks it wasn't necessarily that they couldn't be good players in the league their bodies weren't holding up. In Jones' case he also got into using drugs which certainly impacted his career.

This was on a Facebook reel that I can't find again, but it's some reporter type guy who said that the entire receiver room that was left said if they didn't get rid of Green that they were out of there. If true, maybe Hasz and Sategna weren't greedy assholes after all.

It didn't seem like they were super interested in keeping (overpaying) for the old "room" of WRs. Maybe Green had something to do with a couple but I'm not buying it over all. We traded a few discount bins specials for some clover valley units.
