Mizzou has a lot more support than we do now. At least in football.

They have confidence in their program.  Our supporters don't. Missouri fans are used to being bottom feeders.  They had one of the worst programs in history until Pinkel got there.  What they're seeing now is as good as it's ever been for their school. 

A change in leadership, if done properly, would likely result in a major increase in financial support.

I think part of how to view him is that at worst he's better than Pittman right now and arguably Drink has a lot of tread on the tires and his best years as a head coach are ahead of him and not behind him. 

I'm not a huge fan of the dude but nevertheless he'll go down as another guy with ties to this state that wasn't hired here or we couldn't land him when we wanted to.

As a darker than darksider I have zero enthusiasm for this season and won't until fat Sam is run out of town and we have a coach who deserves some enthusiasm but Yuri might hire some shitbag like Reggie Herring.  So I'll invest nothing in this season.

One advantage they have is that 80% of all sportswriters are MU alumni.  So even if the advantages aren't real they will spin them as such.

Your last sentence is where I am. If he goes 4-8 or worse and we can finally can him, what hire would bring enthusiasm? I can't think of anyone but ready to roll the dice. I think the administration has made pretty clear where they think we stand amongst our peers in football...and they may not be wrong. Still, someone will take our money despite us being a football coaching graveyard. I just have no idea who that might be.

Could we get a "big fish" like Fickell if Wisconsin fires him after this season? Would he bring enthusiasm and NIL contributions? Would it be one of the Sunbelt coaches like Sumrall instead? Everyone says Petrino, and he probably would get us a quick influx of donations, but I honestly don't think he wants it at this point. He's not the mercenary he once was anyway.

Lashlee is probably the best hope for anyone with a decent name/rep from a fairly big conference.  With his ties to the state I could see him drawing out some of the big donors to help him along.
