For the 2nd year in a row I will say I'd make Nick Saban say no...we could be a nice retirement gig for him.

I'm not a fan of Lashlee either. We may hire a better HC but we will likely dowgrade our OC (and maybe DC).

Outside this state, we're seen as a bottom tier SEC school with a huge recruiting disadvantage, and poor NIL support. A huge boost in NIL (if still an option) is the only way we will lure in a decent coach. Otherwise we can try and catch lightning in a bottle with a mid major coach or coordinator.

if disaster does indeed strike this season and it's a coordinator we go after, then that shows how much the people in charge value the football program. fire a first time head coach only to hire a first time head coach. and it will almost certainly be lunney or maybe loggains who's most important credentials are he's an "arkansas guy".

if that's the case just ride pittman's contract out.

Consecutive 11-3, 8-0 seasons, the latter of which came in a league where he had probably one of the least talented rosters.  Obviously you never know how a coach is going to translate to SEC play, but we'd be lucky to get someone with that resume.   

Would you prefer Lashlee plus maybe 25-50% more NIL or Pittman and the status quo?

As you well know, I think money is our biggest issue. So anything that brings in better talent, I'm on board. I'd hope he (or whoever the next coach is strongly considers keeping Petrino). That is a big plus for me.

My issue with Lashlee is he was very meh as an OC is the SEC. You could argue below average. Winning at SMU in a poor ACC doesn't move my needle. Let's see what he does in year 2.

I'm not impressed with him.  In my career, I found that the best coaches spent 99% of the game coaching their players.  The less than stellar ones spent a lot more time yelling at the officials instead of coaching.  For instance, if Saban didn't like something, he would come up and yell something like, "Why didn't you call that?!?" I would say, "Coach, I saw XXX and didn't think it was a foul."  He would then yell, "You missed it!" and then go back to coaching.    The whole interaction was less than 30 seconds. 

Y'all might not think it's funny, but for officials, I have a great story about him when he was on staff at Auburn.  He was the OC and Muschamp was the DC in 2015.  I passed on something that they didn't like.  He and Muschamp both ran down to me yelling and screaming, flailing their arms, etc.  I saw Malzahn coming down the sideline.  He got to me and said, "My name, what did you have there?"  I said, "Coach, first thing is I'm not listening to either of these two guys when they are going to act like that."  Malzahn said, "I'll take care of them.  What did you have?"  I told him what I had, that I didn't have enough to warrant a flag, and then described exactly what I saw.  He said, "Thanks" and went back to coaching.  I don't think I saw either Lashlee or Muschamp the rest of the game.

The only thing I'd argue with respect to Lashlee is that when that happened he was a fairly young coach in his first big time job.  One would hope he's matured somewhat since then, and since taking the responsibility over a whole team versus one side of the ball. 

Muschamp is just a loose cannon.  That guy will have a stroke (with or without Swahili's intervention) before he hits 60.

I know a few "old timers" like that too.  In my experience, it's not that they think he was a great coach.  It's that they are content with 7-8 wins every year with an occasional 10 win season mixed in and a coach who seemed to be a nice, upstanding guy.  They would rather have a coach like the one in the clip below than Petrino who never smiled, always seemed to be in a bad mood, etc.  If you could find a coach that won like Petrino in 2012 and acted like Nutt, you would have lightning in a bottle.
