There is so much doom.and gloom around this football team here in Fayetteville. No one outside of the true Homer's (Rick B) thinks more than 4 wins(even if that) is possible.

I have a feeling Memphis is going to streamroll us in the Window Smashed Bowl.

We fans of this program are a battered wife that doesn't know how to leave. Come football season we'll be back sitting in a dark corner of a room emotionally wrecked but still hopeful for meaningful change. The majority of us will continue to consume this product no matter what out of habit if for no other reason. Come winter they'll tell us things will be different now...you'll see. Pay up and all that. But it won't be any different. 

Meaningful change means you have to admit a problem and identify how to overcome it. In our case there seems to be a huge talent deficit from one season to the next and not enough bank roll to support a legit P4 powerhouse football program. The only way to get there is to pull in a coach that can really bring the juice with him and that's what we've done with Cal and prior to that Muss. We aren't serious about football and haven't been for a decade or more. And the coaching landscape out there...I don't know that there are all that many 2008 Petrino level hires out there to be had. So that leaves us taking flyers on the Lashlee, Chadwell, and Traylor types and they may very well be good hires but I'm not sure it's moving the needle enough to really bring in talent acquisition and retain long enough to develop keeds for OUR team

Or at least define that as termination for cause, so that we don't have to pay a buyout.  The same should be included in the event that a coach goes 0-whatever in conference play regardless of sport.

The bolded part is not even close to true. They can't even sell out their on-campus version of WMS - even if you count the freebies sitting on the rocks.

Not true. Two major metros with tons of support. Far superior branding. They are a better program.

They had those two major metros for the last 100 years and were one of the worst programs in the country for most of them.  When we were decent to good, we recruited their home state better than they did. 

Missouri is enjoying the fact that they are having unprecedented (for them) success while we are stuck in the mud of three straight poor head coaching hires.  Give them (or Ole Miss, or State, or pretty much anyone else in our tier) a better head coach for that long of a period and of course they're going to get better results. 

The number one controllable factor determining success in college football is still the head coach.  A good one can win anywhere.  A poor one will underachieve no matter how much money or talent you provide for him.

I'm just telling you they got serious about it. St. Louis and Kansas City people used to not give a shit and now they do. Statistically, highly likely they have a winning record against us from here over the long-term.

Some of them got serious about it.  And the next time they hit a downturn (as all SEC programs do) they'll move back to the Chiefs, Cardinals, Blues, maybe even Nebraska football if they ever get their shit together again. 

They have far fewer die hards and far more casuals (for now) than we do, although that first category is shrinking rapidly for us the further Hunter and Sam let the program get from relevance.

You're wrong. I'm up there all the time. We have far more casuals. NWA is full of transients that would rather mountain bike or spend time exercising rather than watch real sports.
