They had those two major metros for the last 100 years and were one of the worst programs in the country for most of them.  When we were decent to good, we recruited their home state better than they did. 

Missouri is enjoying the fact that they are having unprecedented (for them) success while we are stuck in the mud of three straight poor head coaching hires.  Give them (or Ole Miss, or State, or pretty much anyone else in our tier) a better head coach for that long of a period and of course they're going to get better results. 

The number one controllable factor determining success in college football is still the head coach.  A good one can win anywhere.  A poor one will underachieve no matter how much money or talent you provide for him. 

I think for the past few years, if we hypothetically swamped schedules with Mizzou, the record would closely translate as well.

I don't know what kind of madness thinks scheduling Notre Dame and Memphis is a good idea in the same season no less when historically we can count on getting screwed on the conference schedule.

They've provided no facts. I'm in Columbia, STL, and KC all the time around upper crust and business people. They've done a great job with their alumni base there. Take a stroll through Columbia and compare it to NWA. Their branding kicks our ass. Most of NWA doesn't care about the Hogs.

Most people in KC don't give a damn about college sports or they're casuals, they're all about the Chiefs. For the ones that do, I'd say there are more KU fans, especially on the Kansas side in Johnson County. This isn't surprising since Lawrence isn't that far away. There is also a sizable KState fan base, though not as big as MU. Back when Nebraska was a big deal, there were a ton of casual NU football fans. There is even a small but diehard Iowa State fan base that shows up strong at the BB tournament. KC has always been a divided city and always will.

Except I have literally never seen any sort of semblance of any mizzou fans here. You see fans from all over. Ohio state, Wisconsin, like everywhere but I've never seen anyone donning anything mizzou. But I'm told their fan support is majestic!
