I'm at the point that I think it's better to let someone else take the money hit on anything less than a 5 star HS recruit unless they're linemen. They can always come back to Arkansas. Let somebody else feed and train them for a year or two. For instance, it didn't hurt us that Crutchfield left. He wouldn't have gotten on the field last year if he can't this year and dipwitz wasted his money trying to make inroads into Arkansas.

Since apparently we don't have money for both, can't say it's a bad strategy to use what money and resources we have to go for players in the portal. At least they've had a chance to prove their value, however imo overall filling in the gaps every year makes the team have a higher floor but lower ceiling.

Well, Yurachek told us today that we just can't compete in football.  So the all world commit saying "Thanks but no thanks" to go to...(checks info)...Texas Tech...is not surprising.

"I think we're set up to win a national championship in men's basketball moving forward," Yurachek explained. "We know we're set up to win a national championship in baseball moving forward, and I think we're set up in several other sports to win a national championship. Football, where we are right now, we're not set up to win a national championship. I'll just be brutally honest with that. But I think we're set up to compete really well in the SEC, especially now with the new revenue sharing model."

The big reason for that is due to the Razorbacks not wanting to operate in the "third lane" and the difference in their athletic budget compared to other programs in the SEC. According to Yurachek, some programs in the conference are operating with a budget over $300 million compared to Arkansas' $170 million. That has given them an advantage, especially those how circumvent the rules, but, as he mentioned, Yurachek still believes revenue sharing will serve as more of an equalizer moving forward.

and he said arkansas has to rethink it's third lane strategy. sounded to me he was saying if you want top shelf, then join the cheaters. all this integrity shit started long before yurachek. it's how the people who have run the program, and a large part of he fanbase want it to be.

doesn't matter what a bunch of boomers think about where college football is right now. it's completely irrelevant because the game doesn't give a shit about their opinions.

of course coaching matters, but when your best recruit flips to texas tech it isn't because their coach is a football savant or lubbock tx is such a an inviting place to live. they are playing the game.

You've got to give it to Hunter, he is already working on sabotaging the potential coaching search so that he doesn't have to do it and has an excuse to keep Sam one more year.  He is either really fucking dumb or really fucking smart.

tech's rich boosters have spent an estimated $30 million for the 25-26 classes. go look at their results the last few of years, 8-5 is the best they have done (that includes a loss to arkansas).

would arkansas fans (if they could) throw that kind of money at nil for 8-5? it's an investment in what they hope will turn things around and make them big time competitors.

i said coaching matters but i'm afraid that when the next one is hired, a lot of fans will want to "wait and see what he does" before stepping up. maybe not.

I think it depends on the hire.  Unfortunately whoever is doing the hiring will have to "win the press conference" with his next pick. 

I was against Petrino being the next head coach when he first came back as OC, and still think there could be better options available.  But promoting BP, especially if the offense continues to flourish over the rest of the year, would likely be the most realistic possibility to motivate people to open their wallets.  The people whose donations matter remember the last time we were relevant, and who was in charge then.  It's hard to argue "the game has passed him by" when his side of the ball is putting up 500+ yards and 40+ points per game while being at a talent disadvantage.
