He might adapt, but he wouldn't be the same type player.  He would have to be more like a Karl Malone than what he is now.

Karl Malone is not a bad guy to be compared to. I consider him to be the best 4 of all time... Well toss up between him and Duncan.

I agree.  Now Lebron isn't as good of a midrange shooter as Karl was.  He was deadly, particularly later in his career.

Duncan and Malone were different style 4's. Depending on what you need, one is better than the other.

He's one of the best passers of all time, dude. I'm pretty sure he would adapt to whatever rule set was put in front of him.

This like the mirror image of the baseball debate that says "Babe Ruth couldn't make a high school team today.  He never hit a HR on a pitch thrown over 85 mph."  No shit he couldn't...like the other athletes of his era he rarely if ever picked up a weight, had to work for a living in the offseason (until he made it big - most others worked every winter), had no clue about nutrition, and didn't have personal coaches and trainers starting in tee ball. 

Lebron would have been fine.  The best in one generation would find a way to be at or near the same level in another had they been born earlier or later.  The biggest obstacle to him being a star before probably 2000 was that he would have been pigeonholed into an inside role due to his size and might have never been able to develop the shooting, passing, driving, etc that has made him great.

duncan had five rings to go along with rookie of the year, two mvp, three finals mvp, 15 all-nba and all defense teams. he was directly responsible for a small market team like the spurs being able to dominate for as long as they did.

personally i don't think you can compare players to different eras because, you know, they were different. hell in the not so distant future of the game you'll likely to have a court full of wembanyama/porzingis/holmgrem type dudes.
