Quote from: woodhog14 on Jan 04, 2024, 12:53 PMNot only that, as of now, we are not projected to be in the NCAAT.

We can't finish any worse than 11-7 in SEC play to make the NCAAT.

Only two teams have finished 10-8 in the SEC and missed the NCAA tournament since 2017. Both of those were Ole Miss teams with inferior resumes to what we would have in the same scenario.

If we get to 11-7 we're a lock.  10-8 almost certainly gets us in, albeit maybe with an opening game in Dayton on Tuesday.  Anything below that and we're probably in the NIT.

I have 12-6, but wouldn't be shocked.

Until Musselman rolls out a team that isn't playing its best basketball from February 1st through the end of March, I'm going to assume the best.

I would love to see an offensive system that didn't rely on us having hot shooters.  The best college shooter is a shit NBA shooter, so maybe something besides an NBA iso offense please.

And maybe some options on defense besides man with shitty rotations. Oklahoma doesn't have what I'd call an impressive inside game and they killed us in the paint.
Fuck your feelings

Agreed....I love college basketball...LOVE IT....but not a lot of solid offensive motion offenses, concepts being taught/played....all predicated on ball screens......BORING

I am betting on some downward revisions in this thread.
Splash 11! drop ABE track, too confusing

You know how Europe writes dates in a different order?

I must have channeled that with my brilliant prediction above.

What did I post a few weeks ago-- something about watching a North Carolina game (against somebody, maybe Nova) that I watched and loved .  Clean basketball, not a lot of hacking and fouling, actually running plays to get shooters open.  It was fun to watch. We do various versions of a pick and roll, and set some screens once in a while, but never a real rhythm to our offense.  Way too much like pro ball.  Isolate someone and let them go one on one.

Well what now?  What would you do?

I don't think there's an answer but I would try something drastic. I would cut it down to an Eddie Sutton-like 7 man rotation, 5+2, focused on those who can play defense.

Starters:
Menefield
Lawson
Brazile
Mark
Blocker

Other 2:
Graham (yeah I know this goes against my rule but you also need offense)
Battle (same)

The caveat is why these 2 come off the bench.

Yes I do believe we need to shrink down the roster and let Muss go back to coaching what he knows. Maybe this roster spiraled out of control to a point he literally doesn't know who to play to be competitive.

I'm searching for answers on the official roster and what I see is guys that were too small for their skill set at smaller gigs that were brought here to get their shit pushed in the SEC. It's that fucking bad.

F-Lawson (tell him to rebound/set screens or GTFO)
F-Brazile (play dunker position, let him drift to get some face up high post looks)
F-Denijay Harris (tell him to fucking rebound or GTFO) Guard them gettin off the bus.
G-Battle (Let this dude get minutes and see what kind of production we get over the long haul)
G-Menefield (his size/conditioning may be in question but no doubt he's the best lead guard on the team)

Subs:
G-Mark
F-Graham
G-Blocker (time to start thinking about his development)

It would be wonderful to get Davenport going, Davis get his head screwed on, Mitchell can give us better minutes but he's just not been the same this season. Simple truth is it's time to start weeding out the headcases which seems to be about half the roster and that shit can spread.

Remember when we were all happy as hell we signed all these guys? Like I have said...I never get excited until I see them play. And right now, I ain't excited.
Well, shit...

Bench Devo.  He was gone anyway.

Interesting we have the same 7, you added Harris for 8. Neither of us are interested in Devo or Mitchell at this point.

I'm all for Devo if he can pull his head out of his ass. He isn't going to though and we all know that. Mitchell is kinda of the same thing. Yes we need his big body but the reality is he's just not playing all that well. Last season I think he got more into the flow being the primary big man on the roster and we RAN PLAYS FOR HIM EVEN.

I realize the talent from from last season to this season is much different in skill set and overall roster construction but Mitchell really went from a semi-productive big man to a total nothing burger this season.

We need high energy players and probably a couple guys on the court that know they aren't the "guy" and that's Harris and Lawson. Those guys have to be the dirty work players for this team and they can't do it from the bench.

Also another critical thing I'm seeing is Menefield will be shooting a ass ton of free throws and he sucks at it. Ellis is historically great free throw shooter but can't get onto or stay on the floor. A good many of these players are probably not great free throw shooters. Mark is, Ellis is, Battle isn't. Muss loves high free throw guys...just wish he bothered to scout some of these dudes.

Well this could be a general answer to the whole damn problem. What we need when we're hitting dry spells, is to slow down and run a set play to the big guy who's fairly automatic, or can draw fouls.

We don't have that/we don't do that anyway/both/all of the above.

If I were a smart basketball coach, I think I could figure it out a way to do that.

Battle is shooting better from the line than Ellis and Mark on way more attempts. Not sure where the idea that Battle is a bad free throw shooter came from.

I think it was a Germans bombing Pearl Harbour thing. Don't stop animal when he's on a roll.

Muss was strangely upbeat and optimistic in his pregame press conference. I wonder what's up with that.
