I was thinking this morning how Nolan had that eight year stretch or so where we went to three final fours and two championship games.  More sustained success than we've had in a long time.  Most coaches don't last that long at a school these days.

Yet, really only two recruiting classes.

He had a third class coming in but the NCAA broke it up and came back and apologized but the damage was done. Otherwise, Nolan keeps it going.

That was the clæss with Jesse Pate. Class was ranked #1 in the country.

Nolan's last 5 seasons had more WTF shit happen against him than any coach ever.  Just bad fucking luck through it all.  And, he worked for an AD that had zero.zero desire to reach out and make shit right.

Nolan and McDonald are forever at the top of Mount Rushmore in terms of best coaches we have ever had.

Yeah, I know.  The point of the post was not to discuss Nolan's recruiting prowess, but to point out that he was able to generate eight or nine years dominance with what were in effect two classes.  That can't be done today.  If you recruit well enough, you have to start over every year.  Hell, if you don't recruit well enough, they're probably leaving too.  So, good recruiter or bad recruiter you have to do it every year.

I don't really understand how someone does it now.

Yeah Pate and Adebayo were the JUCO studs. There was another one, Marcus Saxon, who was highly touted, but never amounted to anything. That class also had a bunch of in-state talent that went elsewhere, like Quincy Lewis, Keith Carter, Jason Smith, one of the Flanigans.

That class also had Pat Bradley and Derek Hood.  It was a great class.

I think it had Nick Davis too.  Rebound machine. 

Saxon didn't have the grades.  Kareem Pool another 6'10 kid the same. 

It's tragic what they did to Pate and Adebayo.  Pate was our leading scorer that year.

Plus Kareem Reid who was actually on the team in 94-95 but was part of the Bradley/Hood class because he had to redshirt on the runner up team.

That's correct.  The staff had him as Becks replacement. He was a good one.
