Quote from: animal on Apr 27, 2023, 09:03 AMThe Jets thing just doesn't seem like his style at all but maybe he makes it work for him. They have a great defense and only lacked in scoring last season. You add Rodgers to the mix and that's probably worth a consistent 10 point swing. That being said it's still going to come down to in the playoffs Rodgers isn't one of those guys that's going to sell out for a win. He's not going to John Elway helicopter his way to a win. He's just not that guy. He's Jay Cutler with a better publicist and having played for a better organization over the course of his career.

If I'm Seattle or LA Rams I'd sneak in somewhere and pick Hendon Hooker...let him sit for a year to heal up. If it weren't for the knee he'd be in that top 5 conversation.

Hookers issue is the injury but also his age.  He's 25.  Ancient these days.  He'll likely go first round tonight in spite of that.

Lamar Jackson is the NFL's highest paid player.  5-year $260-million, with $185 million in guarantees.

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

What the hell are these teams thinking picking Stroud and Richardson that high?

I guess they're already positioning for the 2024 draft.

Show-Me Hog

I can't believe this is on ABC. Network television. Really?

I'll never not think of a draft as a thing to read about in the paper on the internet the next day.

Injury prone.  Not real bright.  Declining performance.  And now his contract will cut the talent on the team.

Will Levis must have showed up with a Hitler mustache to the draft.

Nah, he's not a first round talent.

But neither is stroud or Richardson. Richardson is the real head scratcher, I wouldn't draft that guy until the 6th or 7th.

I agree. I guess my point is that QB inflation pushes mid round prospects up to top 5 picks.  There were folks saying he would go top 5, some had him incomprehensible #1.

Frankly I would have gone Tanner McKee at Stanford.  Most accurate arm, high smarts, super fast processing.  Levis eats whole bananas, so fuckibg inconsistent, and makes really stupid decisions.  Titan can't eval QBs.

On down the steal of the draft for the career backup guy is Jake Haener at Fresno State.  Has everything you want except he's Bryce young size and gets hurt.  Very smart hard worker and leads his team.  Someone will spend a 5 on him.

We shall see how it ends up, but taking Bennet in the 4th round could end up being genius.  He might not be able to do it in the NFL, but the dude is a winner.

It'll go a long way if he can walk into a huddle and sound like he knows what he's doing on day 1.  For a rookie that goes a long way.  I think he's a steal in the 4th.  If you need a backup for Stafford (who may not survive the season) it's hard not to say his big game experience could work out in your favor.

I think Bennett had a huge advantage in playing on a team loaded with top draft picks.  I think he is about to be humbled playing against top talent across the board.  He seems to have an attitude problem.  He's going to be in the XFL/USFL or whatever that is in 25.

animal

Most of these QBs in this draft seem to be pretty risky picks. The Bama guy is so little I'd have a hard time picking him up toward the top. The Ohio State QB would have to buck a huge trend of Ohio State guys sucking as NFL QBs right? Well I guess they can quasi claim Joe Burrow. The Barrett's and the Pryor sorts are a dime a dozen at Ohio State. How is this kid different? Well fuck I don't know he's going to a super quality organization so I see it working out great.

Ignoring the obvious skin color difference between Young and Bennett what is really the big difference? Age? Bennett probably doesn't have the arm to stick in the league but he's going to a system that's taken a guy like Goff and got a lot out of him in that system. It's entirely possible the guy could get that opportunity and stick. This time last year nobody would have given Brock Purdy a snowballs chance. Oh and from what I've seen of Bennett the guy can scramble and pick up yardage at least at the college level. He's certainly more athletic than the name would indicate.

To be fair, in MOST games, he was playing WITH future NFL draft picks and AGAINST future NFL draft picks.  Georgia was stacked but lets not pretend they were the only team with shitloads of NFL talent.

Texzilla

You're missing the point.  Bennett had a huge advantage in his talented team against everyone else.  The move up to the NFL is a geometrical upgrade in talent, speed, power, and complexity. Georgia would get trounced by the 2nd team of the worst NFL team.   It's why most college players don't come close to making it in the league, and why UDFAs and low round picks can be all pros.  Bennett doesn't seem to have the drive of Tom Brady.

Green Bay finally drafts an offensive player.... A QB.
