Half the players in the league are undrafted, so going UDFA is often better than getting drafted in the 7th round to a shitty or wrong team.  Look at Duggan from TCU.  He'd been better off As a UDFA coming to Dallas to be number 3 than being on a team with Herbert.

Green Bay is recommitted to Jordan Love with a weird extension rather than just picking up fifth year option.  Why would you do that instead of seeing if he can actually play in his fourth year?  He's not played!

Same deal with Giants and Daniel Jones.  Didn't pick up option.  He played a bit better and inexplicably got a Dak sized $40 mill a year contract.

The weird economy of QBs.  If you have a great one pay them so much it wrecks the rest of your team.  If you have a mediocre one pay them almost as much and fuck up your team.

If he's not expected to do it till fall 2024 then I doubt there's even been any real testing. I've seen in some cases announcer crews doing mock games. The XFL/USFL would be a good place to do some of those.
