HawgBeat has looked into the issue and discovered the source of confusion to be UA Systemwide Policy 405.6, which has to do with the termination of employment. It states that "an employee who has been dismissed for cause...shall not be eligible for re-employment within any University of Arkansas System's campuses, units or divisions."

However, the UA Board of Trustees did not enact that policy until May 23, 2013, more than 13 months after Long fired Petrino.

That is a key fact because on Aug. 25, 2017, a procedure was added to UASP 405.6 that specified the "policy is not intended to modify any eligibility determination made...prior to the adoption of the policy."

In layman's terms, the policy does not apply to Petrino because he was fired before it was adopted."

This is what makes me think it isn't true.  No way they upstage the basketball team's biggest home game in a decade for the announcement of the OC hire.

I realize it is Bobby but it just doesn't make sense to me.

His A&M offense left a lot to be desired and we won't have an Ainais Smith, Stewart or Moss.

His A&M offense didn't exactly burn it up.  But he can still get a man open for a 15-20 yard gain pretty regularly, as he showed on Saturday.  We haven't had that in a while.

I'm not a lawyer, but wouldn't that instead be applicable to someone who was fired and then later rehired before that policy addendum was adopted? Like if you were fired for cause and later rehired in 2016 you couldn't be fired because of this policy retroacting?

Even with Jimbo's stank on him, Bobby took A&M's offense from 101st in points per game to 26th in lone season there.

"eligibility determination" sounds like whether or not someone is "eligible to be hired." Thus, it doesn't apply to Bobby. The rule in question does not make him ineligible since the rule was made later.

Nah, it would be a great hire.  Sam should have been fired.  We were going to go 2-10 or 3-9 next year anyway and Sam would be fired at the end of the year.  It can only work.  If it fails we're no worse off than we would have been.
