Not sure how I feel about having such a small roster.  Seems like one injury could fuck the season worse than if you had more depth.

My understanding is coaches feel they will have 3-4 kids unhappy about PT with a full roster. They spend time working to develop kids who will likely transfer instead of staying with the program.

You will see more walk ons be given scholarships.

I'm afraid Calipari is used to having his games officiated the Kentucky way.  He's not accustomed to the Arkansas way of having 4-5 guys in foul trouble at all times and the other team shooting 10-15 more free throws per game.

I think you need at least 10. He's probably right about the last 3 spots if they're not playing and potentially causing issues within the locker room. NIL probably makes it even worse. He'd rather have 3 Lawson Blake's who are happy to be along for the ride and contribute at practice.

He mentioned in the same interview that he wants to hire recently retired players as GA's for the team to practice against.

last year he had 9 guys play an average of 31-18 minutes. from there it went to 7 to 1. he'd take a 10th only if the guy understood that he's going to be a practice/garbage time player.

throw in a walk on or two and the idea isn't as radical as it seems.

The idea is probably fine for a functioning basketball team for the season, but why do I have the sense that when you build a team from 0 players, 8-9 is where you end up, so somehow magically that becomes all you wanted on the team anyways.....

the idea that john calipari can't get 3-4 more players to come to the university of arkansas to sit and learn from him because of nil money is a weird one.

how much did pinion, denijay harris or the other guys at the end of the bench get in nil?

he specifically said it's because he doesn't want to waste time and resources on guys he knows won't play as much as they think they should and transfer out after a season. i guess you can choose to believe that or not.

I'm sure it was meant to pump the brakes on guys wanting big numbers to come play for the Chicken Wang Hogs. I knew when figures as high as 7 million were being talked about that guys were going to get expensive. This creates a sense of urgency for prospective players to come aboard or get left out in the cold.

At face value certainly it's easier to manage 8 to 10 egos vs 13 but I do agree it could be construed in varies ways as spin. Does this count as some kind of double secret scholarship reduction penalty? Wasn't that being talked about as a reason Muss got out of Dodge?

So I reckon you are correct. A feller like that former MLB player coming to be a WR may be enough of an athlete to get on the field quickly and contribute so much so that he gets paid some NIL monies as a walkon. 

Certainly could see Blake Lawson getting in on some free catfish. With 9 guys on the team surely Lawson gets some run as #10.

Maybe they can reduce your total roster spots? Idk. I'd assume you would still have to maintain some sort of good academic standing a program.
