4-7 in our last 11 games (albeit against UK, Miss St, aTm, and SC).  It's frustrating to be limping into post-season,  but hopefully DVH can flip the switch for these guys next weekend.

As I told RickB 5 weeks ago; if he is hurt then DVH needs to stop pitching him.  Makes no fucking sense to keep putting a guy into situations he physically can't win.

We will make it to Omaha.

A&M, Kentucky or Tennessee will win it all.

It's so frustrating because we looked like we were coming together early in the season...but hitting has been shit, and pitching is starting to falter and we are making more errors. It's like DVH can never solve the puzzle in getting solid pitching, hitting and defense.

WHO is that second team?

BleedinRed

Would it surprise anyone to find out that over the last 20 or so games we have out hit our opponents?  I went back through the Bama series and just about every series we had more hits than the opponent.  The issue is we are not getting timely hits and guys like Diggs always seem to kill what momentum we have.

You couldn't tell?  LOL.  Kentucky

Quote from: Feral on May 23, 2024, 12:32 PMThis. We've got to pitch Wood or Molina in game 1, put up some runs and go easy on our pen, and then get a typical Hagen game in game 2.

The problem with this team is that they tend to play up or down offensively to the level of pitching we face.

I lost count of the number of times this season an opponent trotted out an underclassman pitcher with a 4.0+ ERA, and our lineup would promptly make them look like Greg Maddux.
They could put in a pitcher that barely made the roster and we still couldn't hit him. Tygart ALWAYS plunks at least one hitter. And Diggs...what more needs to be said.
Well, shit...

I wonder if our guys over pitch during the season and they just get fatigued and never take enough time off to recover.

For example, running cross country and track in high school, we ran 5-6 days per week alternating speed work and 4-5 mile runs.

When spring break came around we were supposed to keep running, I took the whole week off and would always run my best times of the season the first meet after spring break.

We were just running too damn much without enough of time to rest.

That is very surprising, but I wonder if that isn't more of a compliment to our pitching staff than our hitters.

Looking at our offensive numbers at the national level is even more depressing.

82nd in HR's, 200th in batting avg, 215th in extra base hits and 161st in on base %.

Hagan will go down as one of the greatest Razorbacks in any sport for carrying this team to a respectable record.

I'd like us to play with a lead, that would be nice. This falling behind by 4, 5 or 6 runs before we score is getting very old.
I need help and I know it.

Since I had some time, I dug into the Diggs numbers more. There was nothing that Earth-shattering I learned, and only confirms that he tailed off at the end of the season no matter DVH shuffling him up and down.

My main takeaway is that he performs better in the lineup spots that many people think are the most important and maybe that is in his head as well. His best production has been while batting second or fifth, decidedly not at leadoff, so that remains a head-scratcher. The spots below 5th are virtually irrelevant due to small sample size but included anyway.

Other raw data that is almost incomprehensible:

  • Last HR was March 28, which is also the last date his OPS was above 1.000
  • One extra-base hit in May
  • Three extra-base hits since April 1
  • 34 LOB with only 12 RBI since April 1

These charts are for games only since the beginning of SEC play.

The other chart, since there is a limit of one image per post.

Yeah, I'm not getting a warm and fuzzy.

Some of miss stakes players are wearing shorts. The announcer called them high knickers. Whatever, they are shorts.

The latest D1 projections keep us at #5, reminding us again just how meaningless the SECT is.

Now Texass is projected for further inbreeding in College Station and we get LaTech.

Tennessee and Miss State getting a little rowdy.

First challenge of the white bag/green bag deal. Saying the runner touched the wrong bag. He actually stepped where they meet and is ruled safe.
