The Whyte Boar

I just finished watching the game and you can definitely see the BMFP influence on our QBs.  All three looked really good.

Got home an hour ago. Enjoyed reading the thread.

Easily the best game we've played in years. Doesn't matter that it was maybe the worst team we've played in years. We've had bad games against bad teams before.

This was a nearly perfect game against a bad team.

I'll take that every time.

Even if it was just UAPB, it was nice to see how well coached a Petrino offense is. DLine looked pretty solid. It's just great to have football back.

I don't think anyone knows how good we are or how good of a year we'll have.

Let's just enjoy this one.

No matter how bad the opponent is, a team can still have self inflicted miscues and implode.

We didn't do that, we executed very well in a first game (for once).

Snorts

10 possessions and not one turnover, drive-killing penalty, or (afair) delay-of-game.

No T/O to gather the team a la Hootie.

The D got a shutout.  Realistically, what more could we ask for?  We looked as good as we could have considering the opponent.

We looked well coached, offensive line looked a whole lot better than last season. They were tripping over their feet last season against rent-a-wins so this was a marked improvement though mostly different guys playing.

10 on defense looks like a badass. Defensive backs may be an issue...not entirely sure what we have there. Defensive line was noticeably bigger and faster than UAPB but that's to be expected. Can they push around OK State? Nope but they look good enough to get their licks in.

Offense had zero pressure on those QBs so of course they are going to throw well. Green doesn't make as quick of decisions with the ball but maybe he settles into this offense once he see's it working in live conditions. "eye discipline" or whatever they call it. He's got to trust the football do what it do. Green certainly has that Matt Jones look other than you know...he's O0

82 looked like Anquan Boldin out there...probably the same age too.

Russell is gonna be a bowling ball...Reed probably won't play much but that kid is like a fun size version of Russell. A little spit fire. I thought Hill ran a lot "bigger" and tougher than his size. It was nice seeing our RBs fighting for yardage and running thru tackles. The only one that didn't do that is Dubinion who is known for going down upon contact.

In the last few years, going back to Chad years, the offense would have struggled to find themselves. We've always said "First game jitters!" Or "we're just running vanilla offense"

I'm looking forward to a well managed offense with organization and planning, no dumbass/cutesy play calls, no timeouts called because its a goat screw of a huddle, and professional end of game clock management.
We haven't had that since - BMFP_v.1

Quote from: jdcatty on Aug 29, 2024, 10:40 PMReally?  What exactly?  Green made 2 or 3 throws in the first half that would have been straight interceptions in the SEC. The defense would have been better off scrimmaging against our 3rd string.

Singleton did look really good, I will give you that.

We learned that our QB room is much improved.  I get that UAPB is terrible and way outmanned, but look at the throws and mechanics.  There were really only a few misreads and/or bad attempts throughout the game.  Regardless of opponent, that is solid.

We learned that BMFP is running his offense, his way.  That is also very good.

We looked coached out there, how long has it been since we could claim that in an opener??

I get that it was a way outmanned and outgunned team we played (they were softer than 10-ply), but no self inflicted wounds, 10 for 10 on possessions for TDs, solid route running, good passing, good blocking, rock solid play calling, no WTF moments (other than Sategna damned near dropping the ball before breaking the plain on that punt return), etc.  Now, I'm certain we'll see some breakdown and mistakes and such against a real opponent.  That being said, we overall looked coached and serviceable out there.  It has been a long while since that happened.

So yes, we learned some things.  Mostly that we have a QB room, the BMFP offense is back, routes looked good, Jackson has some shake to him, and I'll say it again... we looked coached.

Even by War Memorial standards, that was a miserable experience. Quit fucking playing games there.

No mentions of clock problems, so it actually worked this time?
Did they run out of water?

Check your damn blood pressure!

Stupid fuckers had traffic routed one way in the concourse. Lines a mile long.

vegashog

gave up zero sacks. no snaps in the dirt. only one negative yardage play.

the 2nd and 3rd team defense kept the shutout. some of those guys might not see the field again this season.

and the old guy at wr may be more than just a cool story for the announcers.

buff2.0

We didn't learn what exactly our head coach's role in the program is. OL looked competent.

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

They are hoping to get fired soon so they can collect their payout and list the NWA house same day.

This was a perfect game for what it was supposed to be.  The 1's played flawless in the first half, 2's and 3's played great and showed they were way better than UAPB instead of playing at their level.  Liked that when we had our foot on their neck we didn't let up. Telling backups they need to burn clock and run basic plays isn't good mentally or developmentally (stfu Sam).

So team looked well coached.  No visible mental errors.  Nice seeing a Qb hit a wr in stride to get Yac.  Nice seeing a qb that isn't the fattest guy on the field.  Nice seeing an o line that seems to know basic concepts in footwork.

Quote from: Show-Me Hog on Aug 30, 2024, 12:27 AMSince when do the stats reflect a QB's yardage average, per attempt and not per completion? That's not right, is it?

You cannot view this attachment.

YPA is considered the superior stat because it weeds out the 50+ chukkers.

Just a great job by the team and coaching staff. Such a difference.

Looking forward to Okie State.

PorkyPig

Last night was the first time in a long time we looked like we knew what we were doing.

Papa Pigeritus

It was nice not seeing any bone-headed mistakes or horribly timed, drive-killing trick plays for a change.

As someone said last night, I'm glad Enos and finger-tape are gone.

Quote from: jdcatty on Aug 29, 2024, 09:52 PMTo me, the best thing was we didn't make mistakes.  In 10 possessions in a row.  We had a few penalties, but the last 3 years we would have had 10 false starts in 10 possessions.

That's a start.  Not sure we learned much else.
We had 1 penalty last night. The block in the back on Sategna's punt return.

It was great too see.
