Yep! We avg 2 yards a carry in our opener against W. Carolina last year.

We've got the best combination of coordinator's we've ever had. Probably towards the bottom of the SEC talent wise. If this year goes sideways, it would be a shame to lose Petrino and Williams.

Yeah I doubt Gus keeps either of them

You're probably right but honestly, how can you know that?  I haven't really kept up with recruiting or anything so there were only about five players out there that I'd even heard of before the game.

It's sort of awesome in a way. Every year you get a chance to reload.

With the exception of the Petrino years, there haven't been many times this century where it didn't look like we were playing sandlot football.

In Nutt's best years, we were just really good at sandlot football.

Petrino's years were the only seasons I felt like we were trying to be a real football team.

It was great too see.

According to the Dem Gaz, we had 6 penalties.  But I agree we really cut down on silly mistakes, like false starts, etc.  And it was great to see.  Last year we would have had 6 in the first two drives, mainly false starts.

Green's first few passes were off a bit, but it looked like his mechanics and nerves got straightened out as the game progressed. I thought Singleton was throwing darts and maybe had a little stronger arm. Both looked pretty good, so I think we will be OK at QB if one get injured. We played nearly errorless ball. BMFP makes a difference . No one wants to feel his wrath.
Well, shit...

I may still be riding the high of the game and season starting, but it was good to see the linemen helping the running back up after a run again. That has been missing these past few years.

We also looked faster, even with the heat last night. Didn't notice many cramps - so maybe conditioning is going to be better this year.

54 had a key block on Jackson's long TD run about 25 yards downfield.

No, but he did complain about the air-conditioning and the plumbing in the press box.  I am gathering the press had to go down and pee with the common folks.

I like 54. That center bar helmet is throwing some SWC vibes.

It was hot, it was on a neutral field. There were a lot of new personnel involved in their first game together. We played a substantially inferior team. Everything was in place to see a bunch of mistakes and win by five touchdowns. We played a very clean, relatively mistake free game. Very refreshing.

The oline looked good. The quarterback play was good. The defense seemed to be in right position without blown assignments. We will have to see what happens against equal and better talent, but if we continue doing these things, we can move the chains and make the stops to get the d off the field. Do that and we will be competitive and be in a lot of ball games. That's what you can have with quality coaching.

I'm not as giddy about the QB play as others are.

A lot Green's big completions were due to him having the cleanest pocket he'll see all year. He had hours to wait for the WR to get between the zones, etc. A lot of his misses would have been picked off by a DB with any degree of talent.

Also, we had a few 3rd and 10 / 3rd and 15 type passes that were caught but which never would have been against a real defense putting pressure on the QB.

We're going to be lightyears better than last year, due to having an OC with an otherworldly gift for scheming, but he can only do so much with so little to work with. I think next week we'll come down to earth.

Green was pretty inaccurate early on. He got better in the 2nd quarter.
Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

BASS

Need to get Green a shock collar that goes off every time he drops his elbow. Wear that bitch all week.

Agree. That across the field throw to the hash mark would've been a pick six against SEC talent.

Agree. And I think that is why so many of us are "giddy". We finally did what we were supposed to when playing an inferior opponent. We didn't fart around and have a hole to overcome at halftime.

Sure there are some things we can improve on, but fuck, we can now enjoy football the entire weekend without waiting on Yuri to fire Sam.

Here is what I know about Green.  If BMFP thinks Green is good enough to be his QB, he is better than anyone we've had up there since the first Allen boy (okay maybe the second).  But anyway, a long damned time.

That's the amount of faith I have in Petrino's knowledge and ability with QB's.  This kid definitely needs some work, but we know he'll get it.
