Quote from: hit_that_line on Oct 06, 2024, 12:59 PMWhat does any of that have to do with the aTm game?

The defense won the game of course.

Just off the top of my head, we had four possessions where the offense or special teams completely flipped field position from DEEP in our own territory, twice with long drives (one was the last touchdown) and twice with long punts.

TOP is usually an overrated stat, but it was critical in this game.

Agree. I think the first drive taking 9 mins and the long drives that followed, those paid off late.

Quote from: HOGSRUNWILD on Oct 06, 2024, 11:59 AMYes, I'm a huge Petrino fan so maybe biased, but I think that having him and likely the DC (though I don't know much about him) is helping with their confidence.  In close games, the winner is often decided by who hopes they will win vs who Thinks/KNOWS they will win.  I think under Sam, we have hoped to win a lot while the other team was expecting to win.  Petrino is a fucking winner and that confidence spreads.

Just thinking back to when he was HC and the players talking about TD plays that they fully expected to score on when the play was called.  When that happens, you execute because you are going to score.  That type of mentality helps a ton to play loose but exact.

I'm not a fan of Sam, but I think if we can keep things going without a huge disaster, we could be really set up well for next year, even if Sam is still the coach if we keep the staff in place.

Twill is gone after this season if this defense stays stout.  Deservedly so.  Hard for a young man to stick when he gets shown opportunities.  He needs to be our coach next season as he's built a culture in spite of Sam's fucking kindergarten ways.  BMFP would likely stay as the OC; I don't think he wants all the hassles.  Sam needs to announce retirement and elevate twill now.  If he leaves most of the d players will go with him if it's a decent program.

Quote from: Son of Spam on Oct 06, 2024, 12:12 PMDid anyone else feel the doom coming when Tenn completed that long pass on their last drive? You just knew the movie was ending like we all suspected. Glad it had a surprise ending.

Who's a thunk Vols would step on their dicks like we usually do.

Quote from: animal on Oct 06, 2024, 10:34 AMI didn't watch a helluva lot of this game but I understand they had a reserve DT playing at TE in some packages to help set the edge. No idea who that guy is.

A&M was in our backfield from the edges every single play in the first half.  Seems like we did that to correct it.

People were shitting on Green against A&M, but every other snap he had about 1 second before he was running for his life.

I'm on smoko, so leave me alone.

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

I'm as much of a BMFP simp as anyone... and think it's odd that T-Will is getting so much love in the media for yesterday while the offense seems relatively ignored... but T-Will would be a bigger loss for the program.  I'd love BMFP back as head coach (he should already be) but I'd be nearly as happy with T-Will as the head coach if he's willing to keep someone with BMFP's experience around to learn from.

OU has a really good defense but they gave up 25 at home to this Tennessee team.

Back to the offense, we tripled their allowed rushing yardage.

First time in a long time I've seen an Arkansas team rally around an injured teammate like they did, on both sides of the ball.

It's also good (but not) to see Yurachek throwing himself in front of cameras and mics like he had something to do with the win.  It's like #Integrity Long but without the shitty reputation of firing a successful coach.

We got 3 votes in the coaches poll.  Tennessee is 8th in one poll and 9th in the other.  Vandy has more votes in both polls than we do.

We're gonna kick bye week's ass.

And the amazing thing is that's his normal face. It doesn't look like he's bruised after resisting arrest.

Quote from: passed on Oct 06, 2024, 08:24 AMThat's what I thought too.  We've seen this movie... but somehow, our guys decided to win instead of trying to lose.  I think Singleton, if he settles a bit (and we don't have shit snaps), I think he's a better pocket passer than Green.  The ball gets out on time.

I think the big take away, though, is that the team managed to actually finish.  Even when we lost Green, normally dudes crumble the second we're behind on the scoreboard or lose a valuable teammate. I hope this is a new trend.

I definitely like his throwing motion over Green's. It's short and compact. That's more repeatable and should be more accurate. Hopefully with 1st team reps and prep, Singleton can speed his brain up and slow the game down.

That dude is a natural pass rusher.

It'll be a scene for Texas if we can somehow get through the next three. Dear lord.

We got fined 250k for storming the field. Vandy got fined 100k. Fines to be paid to the opponents.
I need help and I know it.

That's why they only need one shirt: football on Saturday, deer hunt on Sunday and pick up trash the rest of the week.

I thought it was gonna be 500k. We got fined for storming the court/field against Auburn in basketball, Texas in football, Duke in basketball, and now Tennessee.

We probably lead the nation in storming the playing area in the last 4 years.

Our storm was bigger.
Well, shit...

The Whyte Boar

The stadium looked great on TV and the atmosphere looked the best it has been in years.  The only minor gripe I have the with the stadium is the end zone red looked all washed out and faded.
