I just don't like the mentality of not paying to get better players till I get what I want.

That's a "I'm not getting to play so I'm taking my ball and going home" mentality.

Awesome. How's your way working out?

Quote from: vegashog on Nov 30, 2024, 06:52 PMthere isn't an agent or coach that's going to come to the sec for that. none.

going cheap, it's the arkansas way

An FCS coach making half a million would come here for $3m, especially if there was an opportunity to make a LOT more.  Trying to be smart(er) is not cheap.  It's protecting the program from a bad hire.

How much did Beamer and Napier make their first year coaching in the SEC?  What about Drinkwitz?

What you get or don't get is immaterial to reality.  The fanbase, the donors, and probably the janitors in the football complex have checked out on Sam.  He is done.  Nothing will improve while he is here.

The Hail Mary to save Sam's job and keep the boosters on board was bringing back Petrino.  I don't see another move out there that would get more NIL, or even retains current levels, that doesn't involve replacing the head coach.

We lack talent and don't care to invest in that problem. I'm at least trying to make it better.. I wish more would.

I agree, but If they didn't fire him after last season, they aren't firing him after this one.

instead of hiring the "hot" coach, look at a coach's record. find someone who has won at multiple schools instead of a one season wonder. and by winning - more than 7 games and with actual wins over power four schools.  but no - we will hire a guy like Chad Morris instead of the coach he never beat head to head. quit listening to Jerry.

there are very good coaches on the FCS and D2 levels.

still, pittman is coming back unless he retires. our admin has absolutely no vision for the future. hunter's lengthy email last month was proof of that - and it was still $7 million short of accoutning for the $22 million they claim they will need.

as for the post-game - did the media ask any questions or just bitch about the location?
did anyone ask him why Russell has not seen the field lately? Also, what exactly did he do to contribute from the box? how were the nachos?

i don't think there's any doubt that Petrino's best years are behind him at least as a HC. If he gets another year with this program maybe we'll see him get a free (er) hand on the offense. I could see him coming back and telling Pittman he'll do it but fat ass is gonna have to get the fuck out of the way. Overall I was disappointed not necessarily with Petrino but with the entire thing. We didn't really see any progression to get excited about. When we had some young guys flash...they got put back on the shelf and haven't been seen since. We brought back a lot of experience at WR, Armstrong was a baller all season, #4 improved, #6 improved, Broden continued to regress but they played him for much of the season over other guys that could have used the experience. Things kind of turned weird when Washington and Gumms were run oft. i don't know what to read into that.

We were probably the thinnest I've seen at RB in 25 years and entered the season looking "deep". Hill isn't really an SEC back but we give him one or two carries just for funzies. Jackson was injury prone at Utah and continued to be at Arkansas. Dubinion was beat up, butt hurt to start the season...ended up having a good game or two and that's about it. He's not really a "workhorse" and not sure he'd play on a lot of SEC rosters. Russell had a great game and then put on the shelf for the bowl game presumably...no way Jackson plays in that. Russell will be the "keep hope alive" flavor of the month.

Overall we talk about how bad we are on the lines(s)...I'd say our talent level at the skill positions is downright awful once you get thru a couple guys (Armstrong and Jackson). Hasz I'm just not nearly as impressed with as some are. Dude looks out of shape as fuck. He's not overly fast, he's a bit undersized, I mean what's not to like. I think he gets a lot of traction out of looking like a "gamer".

The Russell deal along with the TE's getting run off, AND MOST OF ALL GREEN, smells of a coaching staff that plays favorites.

I love Petrino, but the dirty little secret is that we brought him back as a 'wag the dog' move to get fans re-engaged and we only did 2 wins better than last year simply by virtue of evading Bama on the schedule and we lucking into Auburn and State being two of the worst teams in the country.

I think Arkansans should suck Frank Broyles' skeleton dick some more. I recall the good old days of watching you all slam the only NC coach we've ever had in a major sport because Chuck Barrett told you he was lazy. I still can close my eyes and smile thinking of 75% of you fretting over the lawsuits we were skating to when we "had" to fire Petrino.

That is coaching.  I'd a whole lot rather be mean than mouthy, especially when we can't back it up.

Last game of the year and we still have players running over at the end of plays they weren't involved in just to taunt with that stupid flappy hand faggotry.  Sam and T-Will can both get fucked for not addressing that all season.

This argument is tired, played out, and stupid.  BMFP wasn't a "realistic" hire - come on, Arkansas isn't poaching a coach from the NFL - until he was actually hired.  That's the same thinking that kept Nutt here for 10 years.

florida hired napier at $7.4 million per.

you have coaches making $9 million that just finished 4-7, 8-4, and kelly is trying for his 8th win at $10 million per. you want to totally ignore the market right now, fair or not, what coaching in the sec will get you paid.

add freeze who is making more than pittman to go 5-6.

I think we had enough talent to win 2-3 more games.  Hopefully we can recruit better players to get to where we would be with better coaching.

When you repeatedly lose one score games over and over again, I'm sure talent is the only problem.

The Whyte Boar

We're just a loser program.  We make excuses for a fat loser coach.  We make fun of other schools for "only" going 8-4.  We find ways to lose every single close game.  I don't even know where to start anymore.  It just sucks.

There is absolutely no point to being an Arkansas fan.  It offers no enjoyment, pride, hope or anything else one would associate with entertainment or a pastime.  It's just shame, disgust, and disappointment.

This whole team is soft.  Petrino can't fix that from the OC position, that much is clear at this point.  He can't fix any of the same softness on the defense.  I love that Bobby is back on the sidelines.  I'd love to see us move him up to HC and get the offensive band back together with Paul and Garrick, along with a top GM to keep the NIL funds coming in and being distributed.  It won't happen.

I'm not high on T-Will but I wouldn't be upset if he stayed for another year with a tougher head coach.  I think he could put together a nasty defense if he had players that weren't so smooth-brained.

For the bring Bobby back crowd, what makes you think he's still got it after Missouri St and Louisville?

Does he look like the offensive genius he once was?

Bottom line if NIL isn't already tanking it will if they don't make some changes at the top. All the radio and social media wonks were saying it before the game...Arkansas fans are not engaged. Not in football and surprisingly not really even basketball. The fans are checked out. College athletics is basically now semi-pro sports and I'm not sure fans are going to get nearly as emotionally invested in it. Does the NFL come out and ask the fans to help fork over cash? Well they do it thru ticket sales but college athletics want to keep their traditional revenue lanes free and clear and just add this in on top of it. People are not stupid.

What HY and Pittman have said are very much true. They need the average Joe to fork over hard earned money in order to buy players. I think the flip side that everyone is thinking is you could give Pittman 5 star guys and he's going to find a way to make them mediocre. People see this as a poor investment of their entertainment dollar. You keep putting a shitty product on the field that can barely win meaningful home games and this is what you are going to get.

For our lack of talent in areas this season if these guys clean up some of the dumb shit we probably win 2 or 3 more games. Some of it was easily correctable with better technique and discipline.
