Quote from: animal on Nov 30, 2024, 07:36 PMBottom line if NIL isn't already tanking it will if they don't make some changes at the top. All the radio and social media wonks were saying it before the game...Arkansas fans are not engaged. Not in football and surprisingly not really even basketball. The fans are checked out. College athletics is basically now semi-pro sports and I'm not sure fans are going to get nearly as emotionally invested in it. Does the NFL come out and ask the fans to help fork over cash? Well they do it thru ticket sales but college athletics want to keep their traditional revenue lanes free and clear and just add this in on top of it. People are not stupid.

What HY and Pittman have said are very much true. They need the average Joe to fork over hard earned money in order to buy players. I think the flip side that everyone is thinking is you could give Pittman 5 star guys and he's going to find a way to make them mediocre. People see this as a poor investment of their entertainment dollar. You keep putting a shitty product on the field that can barely win meaningful home games and this is what you are going to get.

For our lack of talent in areas this season if these guys clean up some of the dumb shit we probably win 2 or 3 more games. Some of it was easily correctable with better technique and discipline.

Pretty apt, all of this.

Quote from: AporkalypseNow on Nov 30, 2024, 07:36 PMFor the bring Bobby back crowd, what makes you think he's still got it after Missouri St and Louisville?

Does he look like the offensive genius he once was?

From watching the DJ Williams 4th and 5 videos I think he can still make magic happen.  For whatever reason he hasn't gotten inside Green's head this year.  Aggy's offense was very much improved last season until they wound up having to start their third-string QB due to injuries.

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

He needs to bring the sledge hammer back and put it to Green's head.

The bottkm fell out of this program with KJ's Superman leap.  It's been all downhill since.  Everything was trending upwards.  That broke the spell and Sam and his program turned into a fat pumpkin after that.

What's the point in talent if you don't get the most of it? The head coach sets the tone and this is a soft ass program, with a tired old man leading it. We need someone who will push these players and hold them accountable. Colbeertits and the ghost of BMFP ain't it.

NIL arrangements are one year deals right?  I think we have some who don't need to be invited back.

I would tell the cops he was like that when I found him.

Good to hear Landon Jackson had checked out of the hospital and met the team in the locker room after another loss.

Here's the other issue with NIL.

The chuds in our media have conditioned our fans for literal decades that paying players is evil and sinful and that we're a "clean program" who "does things the right way." We looked down our noses at the Alabamas, Auburns and Ole Misses of the world for doing things of ill repute.

So when paying players is made legal, we simply can't wrap our small brains around it because of years of said conditioning. Prime example is Irwin still referring to direct player payments in recruiting as "cheating" instead of accepting it as codified law now.

Unfortunately, NIL is simply anathema to who we are culturally as a program and a fan base because, like most things, we're stuck in a bygone era and refuse to accept or embrace modernity.

I mean we're talking maybe marginal improvement if you consider the competition upgrade from Boise to the SEC. So there's some reason to be optimistic that his senior season will be "better". But this dude isn't going to suddenly put up 25 tds threw the air. Looking at these stats I'd say best case is he gets us into that 15 td's and 7 picks in 2025 that may be good enough for a couple more wins yaw. If you then consider how many dudes he left running wide fucking open or over threw or under threw and he could have put up 25+ tds passing this season he he had a brain. I just don't see the kid getting that much better...maybe with far better protection.

Didn't A&M bench the kid Petrino was starting last season? May be something there...

They don't care. Neither should you.

Offensive line was our weakest position group... again.  How do you fix that?

The HC is a line guru, so how do you put together a line that gives the QB time to throw?

true, but do you see one guy on our oline that would start for almost any sec teams worth a shit? i don't, and yes that falls on the hc.

Absolutely, talent and development suck.

Talent evaluation seems to be a problem with Pittman, how many linemen have they whiffed on?

Add to that the guys who seem to have talent but never play much - singleton, Russell, etc.

Sam's best team was made of guys who had been here for 5 and 6 years which will never occur again. And yet, how has he capitalized on that "success"?

Also, what happened to all the yessir bullshit?

I love when the Arkansas media bristles at subpar conditions.

we're also spending nil at the wrong positions.

To play into that more still... we've gone from a program that "does things the right way (and loses)" to a program that is so terrible because the fans won't shit out 15% of their salaries so a 18-24 year old can spend it on bullshit bling in college because the universities saw to it that they couldn't use all that tv revenue on it's employees (players). Either way we're ready with the excuses and the fans will accept it. For much of my adult life I suffered from this delusion that we do things the right way and that's why we don't win. Makes perfect sense. That's when the "We're not ready for the SEC" talk comes into focus. We weren't then and still aren't now. Whatever edge there is to be gotten you can be sure Arkansas is at the rear of the pack. It's the easiest thing to help explain away mediocrity and keep the customers coming back for more.

God forbid we actually led in the NIL era and still yet our coaches and AD had to answer for that poor result that we are sure would come. Likewise other fan-bases may come back to earth when the results aren't there but Indiana raises enough to be exciting and competitive in a charmin soft Big 10 and will likely be in the playoffs. Vandy's success still looks very 6-6 ish and they damn sure didn't do it with NIL. What IU is doing can only be done in soft fucking leagues like the ACC, Big 10, and Big 12. There's no way we'll ever spend enough to be that much more competitive...we'll have to find the right mix of right players, right time, and right coaches. Something that hasn't really happened since Petrino's stint.

I think Russell played in one or two games after his tweet looking for representation. Interesting.
