Quote from: woodhog14 on Dec 14, 2025, 10:07 AMI talked with a couple of people who were at the Athletic Department's Christmas Party Thursday night. Here are a few things I learned:

  • Ryan Silverfield gets it. He wanted the job and is full of energy.
  • He's a very good communicator and detailed oriented. Something Sam lacked.
  • An influx of cash for NIL has been raised and cash for staff and off field analyst. The number is $35 Million. Not sure how much is for NIL, but was told about 70% will be earmarked for football NIL.
  • Silverfield said that they are going to strive for big upgrades on the defensive side of the ball in the portal.
  • OL was better this year because Sam got really engaged with them and coached them more than Metaos. The returning OL guys were excited that Mateos was not retained.
  • Silverfield met with each OL two different times individually and had 1 hour long film sessions with them. OL is fired up!
  • Shaq McCoy was told to look somewhere else. Doesn't have the lateral quickness RS looks for in OL.
  • Players are excited about RS and love his energy. Was told energy was lacking in the building the last 2 years.
  • The football only GM was a huge get and people nationally were surprised I was told.
  • Some smaller sports that have never had NIL are getting some now. Nothing huge, but something to help them out a bit.

That's about all I found out, so just thought I would share.

Always appreciate your info

So fucking what? Our OL went to shit under Sam, and got somewhat less shitty when Mateos came on but how much of that was because Green could escape a lot of pressure? We got Sam because a bunch of players "liked" him. Is that dad aware his son might be pussy who prefers the coach that was softer than baby shit?
"That's embarrassing.  Looks like Josh Duggar when his parents asked him to babysit."

For $7 mil I'll put a webcam in front of my shitter so I can answer fan questions while I drop the Longhorns off in College Station.

The Lord wants you to put your foot on their balls and believe in it. 'Cuz that's what wins football games. Not jumping offsides like a bunch of wimps and faggots. I don't care what those pinkos over in Russia say. You want to be a loser? You go live in Russia. I'm a winner. I'm an American.

Thanks very much for that info.  Most of the fun is the anticipation and the talking about it.  The games in total last something less than 40 hours a year.

I want Arkansas to get better.  I have 2 teams.  The Hogs have a lot higher upside.  They only have to get to the top 5 of the conference to get in.  Ole Miss is probably going to fall off.  Let's get to that hole they will be leaving near the top before LSU/Texas/Tennessee.  I believe if this hire hits we can also level up near Oklahoma, too.

Sure, that is a lot of hopium, but half the conference is starting over with us so why not?  What's the point if you don't get some every chance you get?

Thanks for the info. The energy level of silverfield vs Sam is like universal and what it will take to turn the program around. It is so obvious he was mailing it in after he got the extension ( like every coach we extend).

Good stuff and thanks for sharing.  I think some enthusiasm in the building alone will solve some of our problems.

It's also good to hear of the increased financial commitment.  If RS can have a halfway decent year and show some direction for the program I believe more money will come in.

You're taking your anger on the wrong person. Stop trying to WooPig everything. He is just sharing what he heard. You don't have to be a dick. Shit like this is why we have about 15 people that still post here.

Then feel free to make it 14.

Didn't like the hire initially but I like RS, he's doing and saying all the right things. When we hired him, just felt like we took what was left because frankly that's our status currently. Better jobs were available. But he wanted ours and is busting his ass.

Some of the developments make it sound like there's a plan in place which is all I freaking wanted. It's encouraging.

ditto
irritatingly incompetent & infuriatingly unhelpful

The Whyte Boar

It became pretty clear soon after we hired him that he had eyed our job in particular for a long time and had a plan.  Not sure why but the last time we had a guy who actually wanted our job and angled for it WITHOUT having Arkansas connections was Frank Broyles.  You might claim Bielema did with his letter, but I feel like that was different.  This guy has been looking at our job for long time.  Given his connections to Norvell and the fact we almost hired him, maybe as far back as seven or eight years ago.

Most of the media and agents like Sexton act like our job is AIDS for a coach's career and just an impossible task.  That is based on the premise that it's the job and not the fact that we have hired candidates who were flawed at best and complete buffoons at worst.  Burt was enjoying being the rich fat guy married to a hot wife and let that and the bottle distract him.  Morris was legitimately mentally handicapped and lazy on top of it.  Pittman just wasn't very bright and quit trying once he got his golden parachute built into his contract.

All it takes is to have a plan, a work ethic, and to not be a complete fool and you can win here.  Nutt succeeded to some degree without any of the three.

Perish peacefully in a warm environment.

I cling to the hope that lesser coaches have succeeded (at least temporarily) due to securing a roster better than the quality of the head coach. Ed Orgeron/LSU and Chizek/Auburn for examples. There's also lesser programs than ours that found big success due to investments in NIL (Texas Tech, Vandy, and Indiana for examples).

I still think we hired the best of the G5 coaches. Longer track record, 4-1 bowl record(4-0 as full time coach), 4-0 against our other candidates, better recruiting footprint. Wanted the job.

we need help at so many positions, we'll find out how much money was really raised when it's portal time.
