This is the kind of shit that will cause boosters to start shooting each other when they realize they are stuck with a champagne version of Sam.  The contract might stay high but I see performance clauses coming.  Otherwise sign your deal and live life like Sam does...drink beer and fuck off and collect $

If you fail to win more than 3 games in a college football season for any circumstances that should be grounds for termination (AFTER YOUR 1st and 2nd season) for cause.

These buyouts have been crazy for a while and arguably you have to wonder if there should be legal findings that the university is capable of paying that out on a whelm when needed and if not then the contract was not negotiated in good faith. That schools aren't firing coaches tells you all you need to know about their ability and willingness to terminate. To that end the entire point behind these buyouts is to keep a school from making knee jerk decisions and like wise the coach is also unable to move. So there's always going to be give and take here.

What we're learning all the time is Arkansas' deal with Sam may be on the side of fiscally conservative and not yielding the results that an Ole Miss or Mizzou is getting which is where we want to be but if it "worked out" then Arkansas looks like a genius making something out of discount quality hiring practices.

On the hoof though aside from a few outliers such as Indiana (I assume) you are going to find endless examples of today's successful programs being well paying gigs and well provisioned with NIL among many others well paying and flat out flopping (FSU)

I say that the way to go is NOT to go cheap on salaries but cheap on buyouts.  If the going rate for a quality SEC coach is $10 million right now, offer a guy $15 million but don't give him a buyout or a very small one. 

If you try to go cheap on salary AND cheap on the buyout like we are, you're going to get predictably bad results.

the buyouts have always been crazy because no AD has had the balls to say enough when it counts by firing a coach and citing losing as for cause or letting a coach walk instead of giving them a crazy ass extension.

Hunter talked shit when he was hired about firing a coach for cause when they didn't win but we know how that has played out.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out now that athletic departments are going to have be fiscally responsible for once now that revenue sharing is here.

All this talk about us being broke, revenue sharing, and all that DOES NOT MATTER.  Coaching salaries AND buyouts are paid by the Razorback Foundation.  That money is not included in the athletic budget.
