how long are you going to get out of a guy closing in on 70? look around and most of the athletic directors at p4 schools are in their 50s or some, like georgia's are in their 40s.

The only way I could see Cal taking an AD job is if he is done coaching and decides he wants to use his clout to try and enact changes in college athletics and needs the AD title to raise hell.

Van Horn would be perfect simply because he knows the blueprint for winning here in a sport where you started at or near the bottom.  When he got here we were at every bit the disadvantage in baseball as our football team currently is in terms of resources, recruiting area, etc. He built it slow and steady by doing the absolute best he could with what he had while gradually lifting our profile.  I get that he probably wouldn't want to mess with it given his age, but he should be the first call we make.

Not to mention he's become a good fund raiser out of necessity.
